Commuting - bike to work ?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I wonder how many of you are biking to go to work?
And how many kms/Miles ?
It's not a laughing matter. Look in the commuting section

check out the commuting thread. there are a LOT of bike commuters on the forum
i commute to work an average of 4.5 days/week year round for a distance of 11km each way or 22 km round trip (14 miles).
the main reason i don't ride every day is b/c i sometimes need recovery/rest days from my recreational training (after a hard weekend race or training workout)
i have been a year-round commuter for 4 years now and a part-time commuter about half of the time the previous 3 years.

Whee i work they knock people of the bikes,f#$k you up and ride away.I work at a school of 1200 kids, zero ride to school.Lowlifes really screw up things for the rest of us.
SACHA- I made the same mistake, look at the commuter section you will be pleasantly surprised. If the weather holds, I am starting friday. I am on evenings this week and have to work through the weekend, so I think starting on a weekend when there are few people there will make it easier to establish a pattern. I'll need to be able to stow my stuff somewhere and change clothes, and figure out a way to make myself presentable. I'm really looking forward to it though.

My commute is around 30 kms one way. I sometimes ride both ways but usually ride in on the bike and then home on the bus (my company pays for the tickets :) ).

I have the lighting system on the way, the bike ready, fenders and all, and now if the weather will just warm a little and the rain stop I'll be there! 13-14 miles one way 3-4 times a week! I try to ride to the stores now and keep the car in the drive way.:p
I ride 24 miles round trip. But's thats if I don't add some fun routes.

I've been riding one-way for awhile. I only go one-way, b/c I need a vehicle for work. (driving to jobsites & meetings). I bring my bike to work, ride home, then ride back in the following day. I do this 4x's a week schedule permitting! 16 miles one way, +/- depending on route.
The worst part about this is that I'm NOT a morning person. So, the days I don't wake up early to ride into work, I sleep in. My sleep pattern gets screwed up. I know, I know, I should get up early on the off days, but I'm lazy!

I commute year round about 20 miles a day, sometimes more I have been commuting full time for about 3 years now before that I was a part time commuter for about 10 years.
I bike commute up to 4 days a week. Twelve-mile round trip.
Other days I use the bus.
I'm a real wuss when it comes to riding on ice or in heavy rain.
I ride in 3-4 times per week, then get a lift home.
Distance is 45 - 65km depending on which bike I take (road or MTB) and the weather.
15 miles round trip. I do this three or four times a week depending on my schedule. There is no better way to get your energy up before the day and unwind after than a good ride.
26 mile round trip generally year round unless weather is v bad.

I commute 18 miles round trip, on average 4.5 days a week, year round. January & February this year have had fairly bad weather and for those months I've only gotten 3 days a week in. I don't ride if there is more than 6 inches of new snow. Rain and cold are just technical problems and don't bother me.
9 miles a day 4 or 5 days a week, year round. A couple of days a week, I'll take a long detour before heading in to the office.
34 miles round trip/4 days a week. My butt just cannot handle riding 6 days straight, so I drive on Wednesdays to break up my riding.

:) 13 miles One way 5 or 6 days a week for the last 4 or 5 years.
I bike to work when I am not playing Hockey. Usually 2 to 3 times a week. 18 kms each way.
Hockey
22 miles round trip. 2 - 3 days per week year round. I do avoid very wet days. Been doing it regularly for 2 years. Before that, occasionally, for 4 years.
Steve
37 miles round trip, I don't do deep snow, heavy rain or temps under zero degrees F.
I've been biking regularly to work for the last three years, almost every day unless I need to drive somewhere directly from work. So far I've been doing about 9 months out of the year, but am trying to expand to year round. Almost too short a commute at a bit less than 5 miles each way, but lots of opportunity for side trips.

I commute 22 miles round trip year round.
I probably have the shortest distance to work-when in town. I ride only 3 miles to work, so I take a detour at night and ride about 12-20 miles home.

Mine was 47.5km round trip until I was made redundant.
10 miles (16 km) round trip. Goes up to 12 miles (20 km) when snowdrifts block part of my route. Drove in one day last week so I could take my daughter to a finm festival -- can't remember the last time I did not ride.

Hey, froze. I do exactly like you. I was teasing my wife that we should buy a house out in the sticks so I'd have a longer ride into work..... :)
I am about to embark on this commuting thing starting April 1. How appropriate, April Fool's Day!
Anyway, I'll be riding 22 miles each way to Chicago from the western suburbs.
I've got the route mapped out and will be finishing up the accessory purchases this week.
I'll let you know how it goes.

I've been commuting year around for the last 22 years (actually it won't be 22 years until June, but hey). I ride anywhere from 18 to 33 miles round trip depending on which route I take. Suburb to City (Minneapolis, MN).

I have been commuting to/from work for the last 2 seasons from spring to fall in Rhode Island. My ride is 14 miles round trip. I tried it one year in winter, it was fine until there was ice and snow, then it was not fun.

You are in the commute area, Sacha. I've been riding to work 1-2 days a week since the beginning of this year. It's 45 mile round trip. Working up to six days a week, since gas hit $2.30 a gallon here. I'll be in great shape for the big summer rides, since my commute and my job will be the equivalent of a century a day.
