I just bought a new old stock Merckx steel frame with a chrome fork and chrome rear seat and chain stays. I'll treat the tubes with Framesaver. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the chrome from pitting and rusting, as seen on many old frames? Thanks.

The best defense that I know of is washing and waxing your bike a few times per year. Well, that and avoiding salty roads in the winter.

I can't resist adding that you want to wash and rinse your bike using a gentle flow of water, instead of a high-pressure stream. Your chrome really won't care, but it's easy to contaminate your bearings with water if you really blast your bike with water. I find that it's best to leave the nozzle off of the garden hose when I wash my bike.

+1, Same thing works for painted surfaces as well.

I wash the car with some added photo-flo ..not that it would really help on a bike where you can dry it off really well and quickly ..but still, I'll probably do it.

Keep it in a dry environment, livingroom, bedrooms will do even the garage. But never in a dirt floor shed or in the elements.
