I'm curious as to how deeply involved other regular cyclists are with our sport. I consider cycling a passion, not an obsession, however, I do plan my life around my riding instead of the other way around. I admit to blowing off days at work so I could ride. I would have 20 bikes if I could afford them and I'm always thinking about the next upgrade or component that I don't need, just want. What are some passionate or obsessive things that you have done and will continue to do in order to get some saddle time?

When I'm not completely focused on work or family my mind drifts towards my passion -- ney, really my obsession with bicycles and tandems.

Slowly burning up my vacation days one at the time for bike rides
Eating a can of sardines and chasing it with tap water in about three minutes at lunch so I can ride the other 57 minutes
Getting up at 5 A.M. for a quick 5 mile sprint in the dark
Spending more money on cold weather cycling clothes that I wear 10 hours a week than I've ever spent on one season on any other type of clothing
Realizing that the determining factor in the purchase of my next house will its proximity to good riding roads
Being willing to stare at your back for hours as you've helped me improve on all those Sunday rides - Thanks!

bikeluver,
I am in the same boat as your are, my life revolves around my bike, I schedule my work around my bike riding.

We use our bikes as our sole means of transport once the RV is parked. When we decide on a locale we want to hang out at we first determine the distance we'll have to bike to get to any employment opportunities and then base our campsite on that. As a major tightwad though I find it hard to own more than one bike... although I'd like a road bike... I use my 15 YO schwinn sierra comp as a road bike... I don't MTB much anymore but I do ride some awesome trails around GNP during the spring/summer/fall, a road bike won't go were I ride there... but the Ol' schwinn does... but I'd REALLY like a road bike... LOL

Absolutely! My main motivation for commuting by bike is so I get to do more riding. I've also already started planning this year's tour in Tasmania (and I don't even know how long I'll have yet).

I started Mountain Biking 4 years ago...

I'm now on my third bike:
1 - 1999 Voodoo Hoodoo CroMo Hard Tail - great starter bike.
2 - 2001/2 Giant NRS-1
3 - 2002 Giant AC Air Lite

Last summer I purchased another 4 Mountain Bikes because my family was eager to join me on the trail!
Fiance - Jamis Dakar
Daughter (14) - Balance Hard Tail
Daughter (11) - GT Avalanche
Son (9) - Giant MTX125

I founded a local Christian Mountain Biking club that now has 60 active members on the distribution list. See http://www.mtbrlz.com We have at least one group ride a week...often times more.

I proposed to my fiance on Barr trail, on the way down Pikes Peak. See the pics and story here: http://www.donaldsonclan.net/Clan2002-06Engagement.htm

I've been to Moab 6 times. The seventh trip to Moab will be in April 2003 and it will be my Bachelor party.

And now for the big kicker, my best friend and I have partnered to start up and go into business at http://www.bikecolorado.com

You tell me - am I very involved in biking?
