Just got back from a quick 7 mile ride, its 2:30 am, i didnt see a single car the whole ride. Had main street all to myself, all green lights, it was amazing. I was working on the forums, but got hungry, had to grab some food, so i took the bike to 7-11, got myself a hot dog and a slurpee. Sat on the grass for 15 min after eating, looked at the stars...

Nothing really exciting happend, i saw a huge clock on the bank i have never seen before, there was a plaque under the clock, it was just resored, almost 100 years old. I dont think i have ever seen that clock before in my life, however i have been down that street hundreds of times, kinda odd, i wonder what else i miss when i drive down main street.

Im going to do this more often, but for now, im going to bed... good night :)

Hey Joe,

I was thinking about a night ride I had with a mate of mine over the local BMX track.

I was perfect, all moonlit, and no pesky kids on their BMX's...we must've been there for two odd hours..but the milky white glow of the asphsalt was unforgettable...

 for nightrides :D

Night rides on the trail are one of my favorites! It's like a completely different trail to ride and quite surreal. Always interesting when some wildlife pops out next to/in front of you!

I know what you mean. My morning commute is in the dark and well before traffic. It is much more relaxing. Except when I see wildlife it is the two-legged kind.

From Joe: "...so i took the bike to 7-11, got myself a hot dog and a slurpee. Sat on the grass for 15 min after eating, looked at the stars... "

Boy, are you lucky, Joe. If I went to 7-Eleven at 2:30 AM I'd have to make out my Last Will and Testament first, and I'd probably be shaking so hard I couldn't eat!

Night rides are great aren't they Joe!?!?!?!? I've done a couple, nothing compares. It is so peaceful at night, and the air has a special feel to it and the temp is just right...aaaaaahhhh, I thin I might go on one tonight.!!!

Night rides are fun. I especially like full moon rides, natural headlights. The pranksters throwing stuff, or people driving with Highbeams on suck. Man I miss slurpees, it has been 10 years since 7-11's were in the Houston area, Stop-n-Go bought them out. I think it is a visual effect that you are going faster, since most of the cars are parked. The thing I love is the long night rides to where not only does the bike feel like it dissapeared and your flying, but you can hear the hum of the chain a lot clearer. Inspiration, soul cleansing, or (as my dad puts it) lunacy.

Ride On.

I love night rides, other than the fact that I work at 7am. So, my night ride is most likely to be in the winter months on the way in to work. Last winter I bought a 15w Vistalite for my early morning commute and since I have 3 months off this summer, I hope to put it to a lot of use.

I used to love riding in London late at night. When I worked the night shift, I would be crusing home at 3:00 am and have the city to myself.

Man, I love night rides!

My commute takes me on a levee-top road alongside a canal all overgrown with Spanish-moss covered trees. After October, and before late April, I reach the levee road about an hour before first light... after a really terrifying nine miles of pitch black rural two-lane road. There's never anybody else out at 6:00am, so I have the levee to myself.

On the levee road, my cheapo little headlamps are the only lights for miles... even though there's a major highway only a mile or so off to one side... I can't see or hear the traffic.

Gliding along totally alone in the dark, its almost a religious experience!

I remember as a kid, my buds and I would camp out in the back yard. We would always end up jumping on our bikes and ride around town. It was great! Especially if there was a light summer fog. Usually one of our local cops would give us hell and send us home, but that was part of the fun. Yeh, 2 a.m. on a bike.......a good thing!

Night rides are awesome! Most of my university lectures are at night, and I just love getting up and going for 4am rides, having the whole road to myself etc etc.

oh yeh... now that brings back some good memories. we would ride (banana bikes) until the wee hours at night in Swansboro, NC during the summer nights. those campouts were very adventurous indeed. We only had 1 night cop and he never had any need to patrol so he usually stayed in the station watching tv.
