Road Cycling - Did the price go up?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I haven't been checking out the forum too much during the winter, so I apologize if this has been asked before...
Did the Trek 5200 price go up? I could SWEAR that over the summer/fall the 2003 complete bike was listed as $2499.00 on their website. With spring hopefully not too far away I was looking into getting one only to find the price is now $2749.00???
Am I just seeing things? did the price really raise $250? and why?
thanks!

It does say $2799
It was $2499 last year

Maybe it's the new colors :D
It's still a very nice bike. I have the less expensive 2002 model... Maybe the resale value will hold up a little better on it.

hmm
why are your handlebars so high up?
pretty upright position...
Well, it probably has a few cool things from last years 5500 or something. Or maybe, with increased gas prices and poor economy, they have to factor in some more stuff.

Hey cool - the handlebar is level with the saddle. That must be a really comfortable ride!

It's caused by the angle of the stem attachment. I believe the new angle raising the handlebar has is becoming popular with some. :D
If that was my bike, I'd flip that stem over and get rid of some o dem spacers. But it's not, so I'll shut up.

I'm getting too old and I can't take the hunched over ride all day long :D
I got the bike to do long rides. I don't race, I'm just a recreational rider. I always wanted a nice road bike with decent components. This is a "work in progress" or as my wife calls it the money pit :)

You nailed it. I did minor adjustments for the first 800 miles until I arrived at the current setup. It's just right for me. I did put a new stem and crank on it since this pic was taken. The next item on the wish list is an Easton EC90 Fork...

Did you check your local dealer prices? I just ordered a 2300, it was $200 less than what is listed on Trek's website.

Nice bike! I think most people have their bars lower than they should be, probably to imitate the pros. :-) If your back and neck ache... are aerodynamics and the "pro look" really going to make you faster?
Trek advertises MSRP. Dealers can do that price or work out a deal.
All prices go up every year. Cost of doing business goes up. Insurance, taxes, freight, customs, etc....

thanks for the replies guys...i figured natually the price would go up...but am positive the $2449 price over the fall was indeed for the 5200 bike. I guess maybe if you ordered the 2003 earlier it was less...
oh well, guess i'll just have to find out and take a trip to the local shops :D can't wait for the snow to melt! :p
