what are the possible causes of a wobbly front tire when decending a hill at over 40 mph? Occassionally my bike will do this and scare me to death. Spokes seem tight and front tire is securely fastened.

Either your wheel is out of true (in which case it would be noticeably wobbly at any speed) or...
