Some of the BikeForums ladies in the NYC/New Jersey area rode together and posted pictures. Go check the Women's Cycling forum. I was going to wait until after next week to suggest this, but their pics prompted me to go ahead and do it now to get the ball rolling.

I propose that the 6/1/2000 ride by GirlznGear, Helioazul, and Marcy S be designated the first official BikeForums.com Serial Ride.

Here is how it works. Now that they have ridden together, if any other BFC poster visits their area, or one of them visits another area, the visitor and resident ride together. Then each will have vicariously ridden with all the other BFC people the other rider has ridden with. Example: Let's say GirlznGear goes to Atlanta on business. While there she rides with Pete Clark, Cambronne (who will have ridden his bike from Augusta), RonH, Stumon, AlphaGeek, and anyone else from that general area who can make it. The Georgia guys will then have ridden with Helioazul and Marcy S. And so on. See?

Next week HogWild will be in New Orleans, and we hope to ride together. So that will be another BFCSR. The first week in August I may be in Houston, so I might be able to hook up with BFC people there.

I propose that the rules be loose. Best would be an actual ride, even if just a couple of miles with the visitor on a borrowed bike. If a ride is just not doable, at the very least , actual personal contact would be required to qualify - meet for coffee, a beer, lunch. In any case pictures would be a big plus. Once we get Jerseys we could wear them on the rides.

So what do you think? Maybe Joe could set up a forum just for Serial Ride reports.
Regards,
Raymond

AlphaGeek,
You guys in Augusta and Atlanta could get a ride together without too much trouble. Old man Clark will probably want Fiber One for his cereal.

Rainman

RainmanP, great idea! Does anyone on this forum live in the West Palm area of Florida? If so, I will probably be down there sometime soon. I would love to go on some REALLY flat, but windy rides!

Oh yeah, the official first Serial Ride date was June 2, 2001... not 2000.... other than that, great proposal R-manP!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures from future BFc rides.

Actually, I will be riding with Hielo and GNG this Sunday at an amazing Mardi Gras ride up in Middletown, NY. We will be riding by camels, elephants, and all other types of 'retired' circus animals. The money we pay for registration goes to The Sanctuary for Animals in Westtown, NY. Check out their website at http:///www.sussexonline.com/ocbc/.

Anyone on this forum up for a great ride with both breakfast and lunch with the options of 10, 18, 25, 44, and 62 hilly mile options?

I will be in Nashville, TN July 13-14, if there are any BFC members nearby.

Hey Rainman, sounds like alot of fun. I'm a little confused about the rules but, thats not unusual for me:D The jersey idea is a great one. I had hoped to be wearing one for identification purposes when we met in N.O. for a ride!

Holler if you get a ride planned in Houston, schedule allowing, I'd haul a few miles for a group ride like that. Plus in Houston, might not get AS lost when I fall behind you experienced speedsters!!:D

Marcy,
I had to re-read your message a couple of times. The first time I was wondering what it would be like to ride an elephant for 62 hilly miles. :)

If you think riding an elephant is bad, try a camel. I rode a camel last summer in Israel and almost lost it. I really felt like I just got off a rollercoaster, since it was so bumpy and the poor thing was swinging back and forth. I went on with my niece and she and I were holding on for our dear lives!

Just to clarify the ride this Sunday, I am meeting Hielo (and hopefully GNG) for a BIKE TOUR!!! :)
We will NOT be riding on elephants or camels, can you imagine that? It is thankfully on bikes and has every rest stop stocked with all types of delicious foods... and what I remember from last year, there was amazing Italian food with Italian music and chef's cooking in front of you. The only bad thing that happened last year was that I left my bike up against the camel fence, and when I returned I was so grossed out........

Just remember.... camels have a bad habit of spiting!!!
I had to hose off my whole bike. YUCK!!!

Servus!

Sorry that I haven't been around much lately. That "work" thing...

Anyhow, if any of you plan on being in Southwest Germany anytime this year, feel free to contact me and we'll organize something!

Wish I could get to the States and do some riding, but looks like the kaibosh has been put on that idea for this year. Oh well...

I'll echo Ranger's post by saying if anyone is in the London, South-East area of England, maybe we could get together for a ride.

Michael W...are you in the locality?

Rich :)

p.s. Am hoping to meet up with Claude the Maltese connection in August for a ride in his territory...should be fun! :D

Hey Ranger and Rich, I have some friends who are cycling in Wales at the end of June. How long would it take you to get there?:D

Hi Cheryl,

By English standards it's a fair trek, about 10 hours by car, but Wales is awesome (well as awsome as Wales can get!!!).. I went cycling up Mt. Snowdon (tallest in Britain) which was a blast to come down...hehe.

Hope your friends have a good time, and don't forget to tell them to pack some waterproofs!!!

Rich :)
