bored as hell waiting for my bike frame to be ready to be assembled and i got this idea, i really dont want to mess up the paint with the derailleurs and such, nor do i want to waste money on a new cog to convert to a ss. So i decided i will jsut use my cassette and run it like a ss but without derailleurs like this pic shows http://www.flickr.com/photos/arifm/51950717/in/set-1127343/

watcha guys and girls think?
now dont go telling me this is the wrong forum, because i post it here cuz in vintage its boring

I told you once I finished mine, you would want one. But you are taking the easy way out, and it wont look as good.

werd, you have to go true single speed. You'll not only drop the weight, but you'll make your bike forget it ever had such low end componetry.

i wonder why more people do not take this route. Seems fine to me but I am not a SS purist. One idea would be to figure out several chain lengths needed for different gear combos and install master links at those points on your chain so it is easy to change chain lenght depending on gear desired. Also, you may want to think about putting a seat on that thing. Much more comfortable than standing all the time.:D

Go for it. Should be easier to get a good chainline. May not be the ideal gear combo you want, but you're young, you'll adjust.

i already have a gear combo that im used to, i hardley shift into any other gear, plus the chainline is straight with my gear combo:D

I've done this on my Dahon (while waiting for a job and money to buy a new flip-flop hub), but find it hard to get the gear ratio that I like working properly -- the bike wants to be around 65", when I really need something along the lines of 74" to avoid spinning out on the pancake-flat roads here. I've got into some problems using a chainline that the bike clearly doesn't like, and we're currently not best friends.
