Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Old SS/FG Racing Photos

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My family has a few boxes full of old biking photos, clips etc. and I am in the process of digitizing them. I figure some people here may appreciate them, so I put them up. The majority of the pictures were taken at Philadelphia area events.

Your grandfather is an old school fixed gear bike racer named Kermit. Thats freaking awesome. Time goes on but some things are timeless.
On a more pertinent note, you can clearly see the guy in picture the OP pasted with keirin grips on his bike but he's holding on near the stem. What a fu*king poser ******bag!!!!! Stocking up on NJS just to impress internet people!

That's one of the best things posted recently. Thanks for getting those out there for us to see.

Just talked to my Uncle (lives on the other side of the country) who is going to mail me a ton more photos and clippings.
He told me my grandfather beat John Sinibaldi in a bunch of races, dang!

It's amazing how little the track bike has changed in 100 years. It's also amazing how much it has changed in 100 years.

Philly people will appreciate this- my grandfather was hit by a car and broke his back after qualifying for the '34 Olympics..... on Kelly Drive. That road scares the **** out of me.

Awesome stuff. One question, though - do you have access to a flatbed scanner anywhere? You'd get better results than scanning these things and given the cool-factor of these photos, I think they deserve the little bit extra effort.

I want your family to adopt me.

I agree.
Regarding the scanner, don't have one at the moment. I am considering grabbing one and then returning it w/in the 30 day return policy limit. I may once my uncle sends me more pictures and newspaper clippings to scan. I have been taking these pics w/ my Canon digi rebel for now.
The worst part is my grandfather died of a heart attack before I was born (smoking) so I can't talk with him about cycling :\

I'm pretty sure there are some Philly BF'ers out there that are more than willing to lend you their scanner.:)
You could also look around for a company with a really high quality scanner. I'm not sure how much it would cost, but it might be worth it for you. My dad did this with some pictures from around 1900 of his family members. The quality and resolution on the scans were amazing. I'll have to ask how much he spent.
Edit: Rereading this, i realized that I didn't make much sense. You could find a company that specializes in scanning old photographs at high quality to better preserve them.
