i like these a lot and own a whole bunch of them, but have started to notice that when i sweat and keep riding they get itchy. that's no fun. i want something equivelent to these that don't get uncomfortable.

Bike shorts are underwear. They're also outerwear. That's what makes them so great/simple.

Interesting thread... I was wanting to get a weeks worth of riding gear without spending $200+ in cycle shorts
Currently wear semi-wicking boxer briefs from Wal-Mart, but when they get wet they get really stretchy and loose, and become more like boxers.

i don't understand why it's so hard for people to grasp the fact that cycling shorts with chamois pads are supposed to be worn with no underwear.
the chamois is designed to kind of mesh with your skin, eliminating friction and adding padding at the same time.
the first time you slide commando into butt butter-lubed cycling shorts, you'll think it's the weirdest thing you've ever felt. an hour later, you'll think it's the best.
just the thought of hours of riding in sweaty cotton boxers or briefs with those seams rubbing against your ass makes me cringe.

someone makes this jawn that's a combonation of boxer breifs and actual cycling shorts...so you can ride in them under regular cutoff shorts or whatev and you won't need to change out of them whenever you get where you're going. anyone know if they're actually comfortable, though?
I have a pair of those from performance bikes. They aren't bad. The shorts are pretty thin, and and padding isn't bad, but i think i'll replace them with a decent pair of chamios and wear those under my shorts. Its pretty much the same thing. The padding on the pb underwear tends to shift around a bit since the rest of the shorts don't have as much structural integrity as real bike shorts.

I've never tried them, but Andiamo (http://www.andiamounderwear.com/) is pretty much what you're talking about. They may or may not be better than Performance. I've read good things though.
You could also use a liner under you shorts/pants like this one (http://www.swobo.com/product_m.aspx?l=00010002000000000000&p=SWB05000&pn=0) from Swobo or this one (http://www.pearlizumi.com/product.php?mode=view&product_id=191025&type_id=1&sport_id=2&category_id=2&color_code=021) from Pearl Izumi.
