One more thing you just miss when driving:

Descending into a deep pocket of cold, refreshing air that hovers in low-lying areas, especially near water. (Or, in the winter, a deep pocket of ice-cold air... )

:D

(I just love those things motorists miss.)

But Pete, you really don't miss that when you are driving. Because the windows fog up.

I got one of those Pete on my way to work in the winter, only trouble is its only 2--3 minutes away from home & im not warmed up ! I dread it as the down hill run gets me cold then i go through the damp mist, if I wear too many clothes Im too hot by the time I get 1/2 way to work, but on the way home its good as it cools me down before I tackle the last hill home when Im working night shift :)

Sorry Pete. No cold pockets over here. Just warm pockets and warmer pockets.

I dread the cold pocket near Cramond. It's always icy if near freezing, because of the damp.

You are right though Pete, you are so much more aware of surroundings on a bike.
