Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - SKS X-tra Dry quick release fender

I planned on getting one of these, and I was wondering if anyone had one and would recomend it. I'm just sick of riding in the rain, and then having a wet stripe up my back. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. Because I use my bike as my main sorce of transportation, I cannot avoid rain to easily. Thanks in advance.

Is that the model with a velcro release strap on it?

In any case, all of those clip on plastic fenders are generally equal in their effectiveness. I would humbly suggest buying the cheapest one you can find or just make your own out of an old election sign or 2L pop bottle or what have you. There really won't be any significant improvement or differences in performance until you jump into full, eyelet-mount fenders (or the non-eyelet mounting equivalents, ie, honjos, raceblades, etc...). Planet Bike makes reasonably nice bike accessories at affordable prices and donates a portion of their profits to bike advocacy groups. Maybe check out what they have to offer?

guys at my office use em, seems to keep the rain off your back so i picked one up at performance for like 10-15 bucks. hasn't rained yet but it looks like it covers the tire pretty well. i got this one as opposed to other ones because i liked the clamp; it lookedl ike it wouldn't scratch stuff up, and it doesn't, so i'm happy with it.

it's the only type I use. tip top. prevents "messenger butt"

One of my former roommates used one of those for quite a while...then it got stolen and he rigged up a really ugly coat-hanger/duct tape/plastic contraption. Both seemed to work just fine.

I have been using it for a while and it works great. Just make sure you keep it closer to the tire ~ 1-3 inches works best. I also use a zip tie following the orange cloth that goes around the seatpost. I found that it helps from slipping.

I use that same one and have for around three years. A great product - does its job and is well made. I like that it is detachable too, so that I can bring it in when I'm worried it might get stolen and also easily take it off on days when it's not raining. I'd definitely recommend it.

Hey fluffhead...if it is slipping have you tried turning the little bolt on the side? It takes an allyn wrench and if you give it a few turns, tightens up the snap/bracket so that it shouldn't slip. Sorry if you already knew this, but thought I'd try and help you out if you didn't.

I've got one as well, prevents the 'skunk stripe' nicely, and for $10 you can't argue.

I've had one for about three years, and it certainly does its job. I've found it works well to mount it on the seat tube, rather than the seatpost, and snake it through the chainstays. This obviously works better on larger frames.

However, I've had the rubber grippy dots on the orange cloth piece transfer to my frame in hot weather. Just sayin'.

Yeah I have tighten down, but I have no little rubber dots left on the inside of the orange strips. They have worn out/disappeared over time. I don't keep the fender on my ride unless I know it is going to rain, otherwise it sits in my closet. Thanks for the tip anyways:)

Avenir QR Porta Fender. It's collapsible, has a nylon strap/quick release, and you can find it for around $20.
