Hey there. Does anyone know where I can buy or have made a women's saddle in an odd color?
I'm looking for probably either british racing green or a light blue...

Brooks makes some models including the Finesse women's racing saddle in British Racing green. It's a very nice dark green.

You said british racing green right? You should check out Brooks. I pretty sure they make quality leather saddles in that color.

sorsha6
08-11-06, 01:16 PM
hm. I think I'm going to stick with light blue, but I don't want a big fat trek women's saddle so I think I'll try to find a white leather one and dye it...

I've seen a few cool looking leather saddles around in British Racing Green, I think a company named Brooks makes them, it might be worthwhile to look into them.

sorsha6
08-11-06, 01:41 PM
so I think what you're saying is is that some company... possibly called "Brooks," makes a saddle in British racing green?

GirlAnachronism

no, i think you misunderstood. that's not what they're saying at all.

I have a friend who skinned a cat, placed it over his saddle, spray painted it green and then rode it around until it rotted off all the while stroking it and calling it 'Brooks'. You could probably do the same. It'd probably be easier to just buy a Brooks brand saddle in racing green, though ...

there is a womans saddle made by brooks that is green. you can buy it online.

there is no company called brooks. british racing green is a myth perpetuated by the british government to make people think that the english are good at athletic activity.

it sure is pretty, i've been thinking about a respray for my frame and it might just have to be done with that saddle in mind.

i was already contemplating copper plating my clips and pedals too...

A: Not even England. I don't believe in it anyway.

B: What?

A: England.

B: Just a conspiracy of cartographers, you mean?

hey sorsha, i felt so bad about contributing to this nonsense (i had no idea it was going to turn into this) that i went to my lbs with my camera intending to take a picture of the sky blue one for you, but they'd sold it. if you're thinking about going with a dye job but not crazy about the idea of dying the saddle itself, you could try getting a white one of these (http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/SA2090) and dying that instead. just wash it a bunch of times before sitting on it.

P.S. in case it got lost in the hubub about Brooks saddles the Finesse ladies Ti railed saddle is available in green.

Selle Italia Turbo - they made a light blue suede one and I've seen at least one on eBay lately ...

If you don't want to wait, you may have to go with the brooks.

Looks like we're gonna love each other... I saw the film ages ago, and I don't remember it much, but the book is one of my all-time faves (Am I the only perv who prefers reading plays to watching them?) IIRC the film was directed by Stoppard, too.

sorsha6, Brooks is a good bet. As for men's vs. women's, you can adjust a brooks "tension" to fit your needs. I love 'em, especially for long rides. Adjusting the saddle throughout the day is just sweet. Good luck.

i know very little of textiles, but after googling around a little it appears you can not dye lycra, at least not using standard methods. unfortunately, i think a lot of the cheap white saddles you can find are also difficult to dye as their covers will probably also be synthetic. if you're feeling brave, you could get a white selle san marco rolls and dye the leather, or if you're feeling creative, you could probably fashion your own saddle cover out of an organic material.

and you're most welcome, it was the least i could do.

(fyi, many people would absolutely not recommend this practice - but obviously it works for someone).
