He's in the bike group I just recently joined so I thought I'd back him up on his sale...Never met the guy though but it's a way of saying thanks for all the info he's posted about bikes...I've learned alot through his website...

He should have either parted that thing out or added a matching front wheel, really.

You gotta love the mediocre photoshop job on the front wheel:D

"Seller's payment instructions
Will ship anywhere, buyer pays actual shipping cost and insurance if desired. Due to the racks and fenders, it may be necessary to ship this in two separate boxes."

racks and fenders???
I used the shipping calculator...$267.00!!!
I know, don't rely on them, but even a bad "guess" puts that WAY to high...I've shipped steel bikes for less...much, much less!

There is something a tad off about that listing. I see no racks or fenders. That bike isn't on Sheldon's page of personal bikes, either. If you are reading, is that legit, Sheldon?

It's got a Biopace chainring. From my understanding, that pretty much guarantees it's Sheldon Brown's.

He states in the question/answer section the shipping calculater is wrong, wants 40 handling plus actual shipping.

It is legit, but I used eBay's "Sell Similar Item" feature from a listing of another bike I sold a while ago, and forgot to edit that part.

No, I would ship it UPS. Probably $35 for shipping, $40 for packing. The eBay shipping calculator doesn't work well for oversized stuff like bikes.

I wouldn't, that's why I'm selling it...not ready to part with any of my Brookses. ;-)

Sheldon, you have got to come riding with us just once! Maybe at the Handmade Bicycle Show next year? You are one of the original doodes. Good to see you still hanging with the no0bs.

Cheers.

Much respect for Sheldon. I blame you more than anyone for getting me into fixed gear bikes, and I also have you to thank for helping me keep all my bikes in good mechanical condition.

But that is one wierdy-mo-beardy bike, and I'm thinking you'd have much better luck parting it out than selling as an almost complete bike. I'm sure you already know that wheel is worth a lot to anyone who wants to convert a bike with vertical dropouts. the frame is probably worth more to someone who doesn't, and there's some rivendell guy out there willing to pay good money for that stem. Of course I could be wrong. I've seen weird things happen on ebay, but I tend to think that that bike is not as good as the sum of it's parts especially in terms of ebay sales.

The clone stamping is my favorite part. Also, I agree with the parting out since that is one serious rear wheel on a kind of average old composite frame.

The Q&A section of the auction is classic. "There's quite a debate going on over at Bike Forums..."

It's 2:48AM here, so my brain is working like sh*t, but I think if the Predator had a bike, his front wheel and proly the rest of the bike would look like that.

How in the world can Capt. Sheldon Brown not have an extra wheel to throw on this bike?
Weird...

Weird...

The wheel on the bike is a high-end wheel that doesn't match the rear (Phil Wood hub, dark gray Mavic G40 rim)...and it doesn't belong to me. It's the front wheel from Harriet's Bottecchia fixie. She's not using this wheel right now because I built her a wheel with a Shimano generator hub and light. However I'm not about to sell off her wheel. I also don't feel like going to the trouble and expense of building up a matching front wheel to go with the super rear wheel on this bike. I figure whoever buys this will probably already have a multi-speed road bike that can share its front wheel...

Actually, whenever you look at a bike from the right side, the trailing spokes run counterclockwise from the hub.

I think you really mean why are the trailing spokes laced "heads-in." I do the trailing spokes heads-out for _derailer_ wheels, but t'other way 'round for fixed gears.

See: http://sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html#side where I explain the reasons for this.
