Southern California - Bike Forums Inland Empire ride.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
There was some talk on the TDSS threads about an Inland Empire ride. I put together a route using routeslip.com that's about 63 miles with around 3200 feet of climbing. Here's the link:
http://routeslip.com/map.php?map=8087
The ride starts and ends at La Sierra park in Riverside. It goes through Norco horse country, Corona heights, Victoria Ave. in Riverside, and past the Mission Inn in downtown Riverside.
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=Gramercy+%26+Mitchell&csz=riverside%2C+ca&country=us&new=1&name=&qty=
I'm going to add a couple of optional loops that will add about 8 miles and 800 feet of climbing. One of the loops will be up Mount Rubidoux.
I haven't set a date yet, but I was thinking the late September, early-to-mid October time frame would work out the best. The highs sould be in the mid-80's, and the hills should be a nice shade of brown.
Who's up for it?
Edit: 9/15/06 Changed routeslip link.
Edit 9/24/06: I added a lite version of the route. 38 miles with 1400 feet of climbing.

Edit: The date is Saturday November 4th, 2006. Meet at 8:30, roll at 9:00.

Rubidoux?

I'd do it as long as it's a no drop ride.
Definately a no-drop ride. I'll be printing out cue sheets, and I have four or five re-grouping sites planned.

Hey, how do you think Minardi will do in ChampCar?
dog hair, you would drive out to I-15 and head north from there. If I were going too, we could potentially car pool from the intersection of CA-76 and I-15.
Minardi is going to Champ Cars?

i don't know, but i hope they spend a lot of money. i guess it depends on their driver line-up. christian klien has been offered a red bull sponsored car in champcar, too.
have you seen the new chassis?

stay on 15 or split to 215?
If Minardi's budget is even 20% of their F1 budget, they probably would quickly establish themselves as a top team. Possibly the top team. They obviously have the expertise to get the job done, and they probably carry enough clout to draw the right people if they have the bank account for it.

I haven't looked up the exact start location, but I assume you'd take the 215.
[EDIT] Never mind... looks like the proposed route starts near the I-15/CA-91 junction. Looks like Tracy's territory.

the problem is no matter how much cash they have, they aren't going to do anything without sponsorship.
it would be great ot have a new team owner of that caliber, but i won't be holding my breath over this yet. there are rumors like this every year, and they almost never become fact.

well that oughtta be easy to find.
For both of you, the best way to get out to the La Sierra area is to take the 15 all the way out to the 91, then take the 91 out to La Sierra Ave, then go left, the park is right in the vecinity. My college (La Sierra University) is on Pierce Street which is about 2 miles from the start. I live about 7 miles form the start, and would probably ride to the start.
I was planning a route to take the bike forum kids  up from Riverside, up into Fontana, up into Lytle creek area and back through redlands, etc...
Maybe I would plan that later in the year.

My vote is for later in the year...I'm being selfish! No having fun without me. :p

15 north to 91 east. Go north on La Sierra about 1.5 miles. Park is on the right.

Oh my god. Someone finally lives near me. I go to school in Riverside(UCR) I'll be commuting from Alessandro(Near Mission Grove) and am looking towards getting a commuter(Kona Smoke) and a road Bike(Maybe a Felt F90) if this inland empire ride goes on...maybe i'll participate if it happens on some recurring basis. I was thinkiong about where I could road bike...and all I could think of was Victoria st, all the roads pretty much suck. But yeah.

Maybe you have me confused with some of the other Jim's in the RBC. (there are abour 7 or 8 of us) I'm definately not a speed demon. :)

Well I'm not too familiar with this route but I'll be there. Definately would be more interested in a lytle creek/redlands/riverside ride though.
I've been checking the Western States Ride Calendar for possible conflicts with the BFIE ride.
The Amtrak Century is on Sept 9th.
The Two Forrests ride is on Sept 23rd.
Angeles Crest and the Lighthouse Century are on Sept 30th.
The Smog to Surf is on Oct 14.
The Solvang Double is on Sept 21st.
Sept 16th might still be a little warm out here in Riverside. I think that Sept 23rd, October 7th, 21st or 28th would work out the best with perhaps the fewest conflicts. All these dates are on Saturday. It may be better to plan a Sunday ride.
I'm toying with the idea of a barbeque at my house after the ride. (Talk me into it) :)

October 7-8 is the MS 150 ride.
OC Wheelmen's Fall Metric (http://www.ocw.org/FallMetric/ocw_fall_metric_century.htm) is on 10/28.
Jim, is this something that should stay with BF, or open it up as an alt ride with RBC?
Ok, looks like 10-7 and 10-28 are out. The problem with moving out the date into November is the risk of rain.

Maybe some RBC members would like to join in. I know that they are going to have a three-club ride sometime in September. If I make it to the meeting tomorrow, I'll bring it up.

I'm thinking about it. Do you know what the elevation profile is like for this one?
caligurl
08-14-06, 07:05 PM
i don't have the picture for it... if that's what you are asking for.... i have 4545 total elevation gain for the whole ride recorded for last year (from my polar 720i!)
All right, it looks like I'll have to make an executive decision. One of the nice things about living is SOCAL is the many choices there are concerinig organized rides. One of the bad things about living in SOCAL is the many choices there are concerning organized rides. The date of the ride will be (drum roll): November 4th.
The main reason I want to host a ride in the IE was that I had so much fun on the previous BF rides I've been on. I enjoy meeting the people I interact with on BF and I enjoy cycling in new areas. I'm hoping to share that with the other members of BF. The route i've mapped out is a compilation of a few of my favorite local rides. There's some nice scenery and a little bit of climbing. There are three 7-11/Circle K type stops, a park near the top of the Main St climb, and even a Starbucks about 3/4 of the way. Right now there's one half-mile section of the ride that's on a road with a few cracks, but I'm working on a way around that. The level of difficulty is between the SART and the GMR/GRR ride. It's a no-drop ride. I'll be riding sweep.
Remember, November 4th. (Maybe I'll have that new Lemond I've had my eye on by then)
Sounds great...putting it on my calendar! Thanks for organizing Jim. :D
Count me in! Saturdays work well for me, and the course looks good. The Corona Heights area is right around my house.
