Are you really sure? AFAIK, "Chez Henri" would be pronounced "shay on-ree" -- I really don't think they pronounce the "z" at the end unless there's another vowel-started word after it.

The Z is heard when pronouncing "Suez", as in the Suez Canal.

Ding Ding Ding; Winner! You need the "L" in the beginning of "lalp" in order to be "proper."

And for christ sakes, do not say "dew wez" like "wez" is a 3rd word in it. "lalp duez"

Sorry, but that's not it.
First: The L in L'alpe is an artikle, it is like THE in THE DIFFICULT ONE
Second: alpe is the french word for mountain meadow (where they have their cattle in summer). So it means "the mountain meadow of Huez". Huez is the name of this place, d' stands for "of". If you only want to say "mountain meadow of Huez" you can say Alpe d'Huez. The first part spells therefore: LALP or ALP.
Third: You have no letter for U in Huez, which is the same like the german Ü. H is not spoken. If one of you can spell the german Ü, he will succeed in pronouncing the second part DÜ-AS with AS like your word as.
But Ü is not like "you"...

So try it again: LALP-DÜ-AS or ALP-DÜ-AS

For those who (still?) care, the german 'ü' and french 'u' (and Danish 'y') is pronounced something like the following:

purse your lips as if you're going to say English 'oo' as in food, but then try to make a sound like 'ee' as in feet.

More or less.

... and (lesson 2): try to say FUTUROSCOPE (stage of the TdF some years ago)

Yeah!
Especially along the southern french-italian border (colle di Agnello for example) they allow you to come as near as 3 meters before they hurry into their holes with a shrill whistle. If you're fast enough (downhill :p ) and it's an unclear area you have to shout out in order to avoid an accident (they love to take a sunning bath in the afternoon on the road)

I know, it's a late reaction, but anyone remembers the movie "The return of the Pink Panther" with Peter Sellers? (1975) In a scene he asks for a "rüm" in a hotel, that's the way to pronounce the U in French :o)

Have a nice day

P.S. Now I remember, in the latest Pink Panther version Steve Martin also excels in French pronounciation with his "I wüld like a amburgur"
