I really like Gil Evans / Steve Lacy's "Paris Blues"
and I dig anything by Joni Mitchell too :)

Sorry, but Kenny G does not play jazz.
Impossible question to answer, but anything by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Roland Kirk or Thelonius Monk would be close to the top of my list.

:D That is hilarious - and absolutely true. Much respect to Pat for saying this. Kenny G is to music what Wyland and Lassen are to art.

In an attempt to have as much music on my computer as possible, I loaded all of my mom's CD's on my computer, and that includes a bunch of the jazz albums that were already mentioned. Only problem is that I just can't stand Jazz. I've tried listening to it, and I have nothing against it, I just don't care for it.

I'm brand new to jazz. So far, what I've been told to expect is not what I've found. My current favorite is Thelonious Monk, and far from being deep and eclectic, I've found his stuff really accessible.
I'm going to put in a plug here for my favorite local public radio jazz station, KMHD. They're on the web at:

No problem, Jazz is not for all tastes. But I think some kind of Jazz can be. For instance, jazz ballads. If a person likes instrumental music, chances are he'll like jazz ballads too. Coltrane plays wonderful ballads: Naima, Nancy, Every time we say goodbye, My one and only love, In a sentimental mood and others. Chet Baker is another musician who can please a broader audience, especially when singing his songs.

Jazz makes it tough to choose... there are so many different flavors of jazz and so many good artists and albums in each. Here's some of what I've had on recently...
Weather Report - Heavy weather
Diana Krall - Only trust your heart
Kansas City Sound - One for the bishop
Stan Getz - The silver collection
Praful - Pyramid in your backyard
Boney James - Pure
Branford Marsalis - Eternal
Charlie Parker - The best of the Verve years
Fourplay - Yes please
Thievery Corporation - The mirror conspiracy
Dave Brubeck - Time out
Chris Botti - When I fall in love
Fela Kuti - Unknown soldier
I'll stop now, but I could go on for ever

I'm just getting over a big Miles phase, went into a short Monk phase and am currently in a major Coltrane phase.
These two are in my car at the moment

Has anyone ever been able to fathom Pat Metheny's "Zero Tolerance For Silence"?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c0/Zerotoleranceforsilence.jpg
Dear God. What was the man thinking? Here's a pretty entertaining review from Amazon.com: "Let me begin by saying that I hold three music degrees, one of them a doctorate. I've studied and appreciated lots of modern music/electronic/experimental/acid jazz/you name it. And I'm a huge Pat Metheny fan. But this is the worst damn thing I've ever heard."
That said, I like "One Quiet Night" a lot.
