According to www.cyclinghalloffame.com:

Jos Wouters was born on this date in 1942. The Belgian rider won the Paris-Tours Classic in 1961 at age 19. He is number 650 on our All-Time list of Riders.

NINETEEN!!!

So, who are some of the young champions of some major cycling events? And did they go on to long careers or disappear without a trace?

Is Lance still the youngest world champion? I believe he was 21.

Well, there hasn't been a younger winner since Lance, so assuming he was the youngest at the time (I trust that you are correct) he must still be the youngest.

There have been some great older winners, Joop Zoetemelk in particular. They had to raise the maximum allowable age to let him defend it because he was 40.
