Both, Neither, it depends on what air shock or spring shock it is. It also depends on what type of riding you will be doing.

go to your lbs and test some out.
air shox = infinite adjustment and lockout
spring shox = great for jumping i would say?

Typically spring shocks are used on more rougher things like on most freeride and downhill bikes, or on super cheap bikes. Air shocks can be more expensive but are generally more firm and used for all mountain or cross country. I think someone on here told me that air is bein used on downhill bikes sometimes.

clydesdales usually use spring shocks vs air for obvious reasons
