I have little to no trail time on my new, cheap, Supercycle (with front and rear suspension).
So a friend at work tells me about a forest ravine under 1 hr from my place that has some decent trails I could check out. Off I went Saturday and I was surprised, these weren't neighbourhood trails; some parts of the run were downright hairy even at slow speeds with double humps, a high grass overgrown narrow path where you couldn't see further than the front wheel, steep ramp-like drops and hills, pools, puddles, loose dirt, and some path's that skirted the ravine's edge.
At one point there was a felled tree that I carried my bike around but I managed to break the trunk (it was dead and dry) and pushed/carried it out of the way so other's wouldn't smash into it.
I went both Saturday (going over the same trail 2x to get familiar with it) and Sunday where I found another even more treacherous trail where I had to carry that heavy bike down and up steep hills full of exposed roots. I was rewarded with cuts on ankles, hands and arms, sore legs (actually whole body) and Sunday I took my first wipeout where my bike went left and I went right (nothing serious). So am I hooked? Yes.
One thing's for sure; when this bike falls apart the next one will be with a lighter frame! I'll keep my weight lifting for my home gym.
