So it's one week (minus a day) till the race I've been working towards all year, the provincial mountain bike championships. I've trained and raced hard all year and am feeling strong at this point. I'm wonder what you guys do the week before a big race? Should I rest, easy spins, some hard efforts during the week? I was planning on just resting, perhaps with some easy easy miles, and with one hard effort mid week to "blow out the pipes". Does this sound OK?

Regards,
Kris

I think your plan for this week is good. Get plenty of rest so that come race time you have something 'extra' in the tank.

What works for me is

Monday - rest or easy recovery
Tuesday - ride a couple hours, maybe a couple of climbs
Wednesday - hard group ride
Thursday - ride a couple hours easy
Friday - off
Saturday - Get on trainer or flat road for an hour very easy with six 10 second sprints thrown in. Complete recovery between each.
Sunday - Warm up well for 20 minuts or so. Hope for the best and have fun.
