Mountain Biking - 03 bighit

I can get a 03 bighit off of my friend for $450. I was wondering if this was a good deal or not. I was also wondering if this bike is any decent for small drops and mountain riding. Thanks

I've seen the bike before and it is in good shape. Since I have seen it the kid brought it to the shop and had a full tune up on the bike.

after checking out the spec list, -i- really wouldn't get it. it's cant handle dh/am and too heavy for xc. also it's used. i think $450 can get you some better used fs bikes or nice ht. there's a local person that is selling a 06 hardrock sport disk (practically new he states) for $400. but it's L.A. area.

i guess for 450 its most like the big hit spec, which is "entry level" bighit if you can call it such a thing. if you are planning on hitting some trails, mostly xc, forget it. but if you chairlift access closeby, get it. even the spec has zoke forks and nice hayes brakes. good truvativ crank and nice shimano lx components.

i'm questioning about the spec, not the frame. i'm sure the frame wont have much problems handling runs, but mozo fork probably will. also are you gonna tell me that it can run dh w/o chain guides? the chain gonna jump in a matter of time and chain guides are like $100.
anyways... that's what -i- think.

Specialized sold a bazillion BigHit FSRs around that time. If you can find a decent used on of those, it would serve you well. The single-pivot "BigHit" was not a true BigHit.

I would avoid the single pivot BigHit.

Heck a shop around here had an '04 leftover BigHit Comp, that they were selling for $1000 for a brand new albeit older model.

I think if you look around you'll find a better deal.
