General Cycling Discussion - One lbs goes down the tubes and I'm not complaining...

lbs here in Crawley in the south east UK has just gone bust. Mentioned this to my regular lbs and they know the guy who ran it. So did I and a number of friends who all share bad experiences at the same shop. Owner was an a$$hole and basically once he got your bucks, that was the end of the after sales service. One friend bought a bike from it, had a problem, and the owner refused point blank to fix it. Chris took the bike back in one mid-Saturday morning (busy time) and asked for it to be looked at. Owner refused, telling Chris the bike was ok. Chris then demonstrated the problem and eventually an argument took place. Of course, most other folk in the shop walked out. I hope the guys who worked there get other jobs but as for the pratt who ran it...

It can be such a shame when the acts and policies of one or two people can have such a large effect. Just out of curiosity, what was the problem that Chris had with the bike and what was likely to have caused it? poor assembly?

He bought the UK equivalent of a Wal-Mart Huffy. Did not cost much, and he said the steering was clunky and it kept slipping gear on the front mech so I guess it was badly assembled and not adjusted properly. He got it fixed at another lbs and he cancelled a savings card he had going to buy his lad a bike. He had to threaten court action in the shop before the old fart who owned it gave him the money back just to get him out of the shop.

Heh, we had a small chain of shops die here for much the same reason. Good riddance.

I can't knock my lbs it really is the best!!!!
