Glue & Grips ?

What glue should I use with those rubber track bike grips from Japan ?

Is there a special procedure I should follow ??? :rolleyes:

I used some of my gf's hairspray. Just squirted some up inside the grip, then got 'em on the bars pronto. The stuff dries eventually and sticks the grips to the bars, but you should get a couple of minutes grace to get them on there and align em before it dries.

I never used glue on my Strong G's and they havent moved. The best way to get them on is by using an air compressor.

Hair spray starts off slippery and then glues stuff together when it dries, which is the perfect combination -- the grips slide right on and can be adjusted for a few minutes but can be ridden in an hour or so. Alcohol or water helps a bit with sliding them on, but not as nicely as hairspray. Some people use kerosene or gasoline, but it tends to leave a little oil behind and the grips can occasionally slip -- probably not in normal practice but definitely in track sprinting. Then there's rubber cement. It's the devil's curse -- you pour it into the grip, squish it around to be sure everything is covered, and perhaps paint some on the bars, but before you get your grips on, everything seizes up. It also gets rubber cement all over the place. And it doesn't stick the grips on any firmer than hair spray (and if you get the extra-super-hold hair spray, that stuff holds better than anything). In short, go with hair spray. It also cleans off nicely with some 409 or Fantastik.

Isnt better put regular and old stylish cloth tape??? U can get the CAT one like for 2 bucks per roll... just a tought

You can use rubber cement or paper cement. 99cents at your local store.

YOU POURING IT INTO THE GRIPS IS STUPID, JUST USE THE STICK AND COAT THE GRIPS ON THE INSIDE. THE VAPORS EXPAND THE GRIPS AND GO ON WELL AND NO IT DOESN'T DRY THAT QUICKLY THAT YOU CANNOT PUT THEM ON.

IT STICKS WELL AND IT COMES OFF VERY EASILY WITH 409, RUBBING ALCOHOL.

I like to use inner tubes for bar tape. Please, no comments about having a brake on my bicycle, this pic was taken when I prepared my bike for a road time trial.

Hot water worked just fine...long drying time though.
