Possibly getting a used cycleops fluid trainer from a guy, but he does not have the skewer that comes with it. Do I need to use a particular type of skewer for the trainer, or is it possible to use any old generic one? It's a good deal, but maybe not so good if I end up having to scour the internet for a single little part.

Just use a generic skewer. Don't use a lightweight one or one with plastic ends or one that you want to look pretty. Get the trainer!

Cool. thanks for the heads-up. Just need to find a round-headed skewer. The guy never really used it, and is asking about a hundred bucks for it, which seemed like a pretty good deal.

Yep.. just use a metal skewer with a nice tapered round edge and it will work fine.
