Mountain Biking - I found the answer to my pedaling problem

Its not the chain, derailleur, cassette, or dork disk. Its the Bottom bracket:eek: I flipped the bike upside down, pulled the chain off the small chainring, turned the crank and it got tight. And the chain clearance was fine. See now Im not sure If i have to replace the bottom bracket or the whole crank. Could it still be that the bb is actually tightening around the frame's bb threading? I do. Discuss.

If it is the bottom bracket, then it doesn't explain your testimony that it still worked in your small/small combo.

do you mean you got the BB tight??? If so thats not good the BB cups sould not move when the cranks turn. Try taking out your BB and then clean, relube it, and possible replace the bearings.

It works when I backpedal for about 30 seconds.

Maybe its the BB. Once it begins gets tight, it has that feeling of trying to over tighten something once its techincally tightened like with a screw. Im not sure how to properly disassemble it.

did you install this BB? what was you method for tightening each cup?(ie, order and torque?)

No I had the lbs do it. I went to a new company thats rated higher then the old one a went to. Service and selection was like 4x higher. I opened that hex bolt at the base of the crank arm, and stuck the allen wrench in it, and man is it filled with green goop with a yellow thicker goop.

Suck it out with a straw, then use lots of WD40 :eek:

dude...man. i don't know, it sounds infected. you might want to have it checked out.

I can't take it in to the lbs. It has to be fixed at home =)

What bottom bracket is it?

Howitzer I believe.

goop is good, its just lube and you can never use to much lube;)

Do you think the BB is threading around the thread?

like the bb cups??...Just see if they turn by just using your hands

Also I was looking at your other thread and saw that in all the pics you are cross chaining (bigest chainring to smallest cog and vise versa) and making an angled chainline. Was your problem still there when your chainline was straight as possible??

Take it back to the lbs that built it up, they'll probably fix it because it was their mistake.
