Hi,

I am in the market for my first mountain bike. I want to use it to drive back and forth to work approx. 13-14 mile round trip (flat roads) and I want to try some offroad stuff.

What bikes/models does everyone like?

I am about positive I wanna go with a hardtail since I am going to be doing a lot of on road driving, and will prob put some slicks on it.

My price range has some flexiability, but would like to stay around 5-7 hundred bucks.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would perfer thishttp://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php?bikeid=1037600&f=19
But this one is cheaper http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php?bikeid=1032600&f=19

I pick these two from trek than other big name brands usually because these have narrower tires and not extra suspension.

I LOVE the Specialized Hardrock, and it's only $350!

Just make sure you get a bike from a Local Bicycle Shop and not a Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc.

I was thinking about getting a Specialized Rockhopper base model '06. Anyone know if there are any significant differences with the 07's? Dude at the bike shop said it was going to be lighter?
