Bicycle Mechanics - Why Searching has been disabled?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Why Searching has been disabled? Anyone else having this problem?

Probably to ease the load on the database server.

Other Forums/BBSes have had this problem. Mischievous folks find a way to keep the database busy doing several intense searches of the database. This is used as a "denial of service" attack.

I often use Google (http://www.google.com/) to search BF instead... just add "site:bikeforums.net" (minus the quotes) to the end of your search terms. The upsides are that Google is generally quite fast, and doesn't load down the BF server when you run your search. The downside is that it doesn't know about posts made since the site was last crawled, and may therefore overlook some very recent items.
All in all, it works pretty well.

What a fantastic idea!! It's probably a better search too, I'm not all that happy with this site's search engine in general.

There's a long thread on this topic in the Road forum. Heh, you might have found it if search was working. :D

Easier and more options

The problem with Google is that what you find depends on the last time Google's "spiders" (web-crawling web-bot) walked through BF. This is why you may not be able to find current threads.
