Hey all,

I am a re-born mountain biker. I used to ride a lot in college, then found excuses not to ride (too busy, got married, had two kids, working two jobs, etc.) and got WAY too fat. I finally broke down last summer and bought a bike. I was kind of a puss about riding it. This year I am excited to get back on and rack up the miles. So my question is this...

It is snowing like crazy here and I am in horrible shape. I want to prepare for the summers riding. Should I get a trainer so I can atleast get my body used to my own bike, or a stationary bike that I can set up and leave it. I could ride the stationary bike for the rest of the winter and still keep using it in the mornings or evenings in the summer. Plus, my wife could use it. If I get the trainer, it is pretty much just for the winter, and pretty much just for me. Hmmm, decisions, decisions...

Thanks

Trainer...they are smoother and simulate the action of the road which is better then simulating the action of a stationary bike :D...I also like the feel of MY bike under me...not someones idea of what a bike should be.

I prefer to stay away from the in-door trainers/bikes because I just love to be out on the trail so much...if at all possible I'll be out there plowing through the snow. It's great for your conditioning and overall bike handling skills.

If the snow is a LOT then indoor might be your only choice. I like the idea of a full sized stationery bike because you won't have to worry about cleaning your ride every time you want to use it indoors.

I'd say join a Spinning class! I joined this year for the first time, and all I can say is that I have worked harder now than ever on my indoor trainer!! Try it out!

Rollers! Help your spin too!

Note: not for beginners!

On second thought, get a trainer, and buy your wife a bike! Nothing better that a couple that rides together. Just ask my wife!
