Foo - Hotter n Hell Hundred rider to help former sex slaves

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey foosters. I thought I'd give you a cycling related warm fuzzy. A friend of mine is moving to Sierra Leonne indefinitely to provide counselling to former sex slaves and children orphaned because their parents died of AIDS--and she's riding in the Hotter n' Hell Hundred to raise funds to go. She's doing a per mile pledge drive (that she thought up of herself) in which the non-profit we both work for is helping in funneling her pledges (in partnership with a couple of other non-profits). We'll (the partnership) also be providing her "umbrella" so she can not only live there, but work there on an NGO Visa. SL is welcoming this kind of work as they are recovering from their 12 year long civil war. Anyway, I'm not soliciting pledges for her here, but I thought y'all might like to know of someone who recently got into cycling and is using her cycling and training for an excellent cause. As one who trained her and used to supervise her--I'm very proud of her. The plight of orphans, widows and victims of trafficking brings tears to my eyes--and she's using the old Peugot I restored for her in order to get to them.

Good job and you should feel proud. Hope she's ok while she's there. You could maybe post a link to her pledge page maybe?

I feel a bit ripped off, too. Not that I don't feel sorry for the sex slaves and all, but geez.

Great thing for you all to do, there is so many who need so much help in the world. I also would ask for a link to her pledge site. A big pat on the back for doing this work!

Unfortunately, she doesn't have much on her site about pledges, but her blog will give you contact info and information about her work. Her page is here (http://www.fromtherooftops.org). She's doing her stuff primarily through e-mail, so you can click on her e-mail link there.

You can e-mail her here (mailto:divini_t@yahoo.com). She doesn't have a link to it on her blog. Sorry for the delay, I wanted to make sure that she would be okay with it.
