Mountain Biking - Help please quick, which one?

Ok so I am looking at a couple bikes and not sure which to get. I plan on doing mostly trail riding and not much hardcore stuff at all. This is my first MTB and I am way amped to get into it.
I am looking at:
1) New, 07 Rockhopper w/disc brakes (bike shop) 799.00
2) Used, 06 Stumpjumper hardtail w/Aivd BB7 disc brakes (private party) 1050.00
3) Used, not sure of year model, Specialized BigHit w hydro disc. I figured I can lockout the rear suspension and ride it like a hardtail. 1000.00
4)Used, not sure of year model, Trek Fuel, the bike has Manatiou black forks, XTR rear Derailer, XT front Derailer, Hayes 6" brakes, Fox rear shock, Rolf Dolimite Race wheels, Thomson Stem, Thomson Seat post, Easton Handle Bars 800.00
5) 2005 SPECIALIZED Rockhopper DISC. $800.00 The bike has a Manitou Axel 100mm travel disc only front fork. A Alex A-class Vetrax D2 disc only ROLF designed wheelset with Specialized Enduro tires that has a 400.00 retail value. Truvativ Firex outboard bearing Crankset w/a 200.00 retail value. Avid bb5 disc brakes with Avid Speed Dial levers 250.00 retail value. SRAM x7 shifters and rear derailler. Shimano deore front derailler...A Specialized beam V groove saddle..Truvativ Hussefelt BAR and STEM.Shimano SPD pedals.ODI lock on grips..Lizard Skins chainstay protector and Brake lever covers.Cane Creek Headset.I got the frame and fork NEW and built the bike up CUSTOM..This is a fine example of a nice All Mountain Hardtail..It is a great bike to do it all on. XC or Freeride..I really like the bike But got a different one recently and do not need TWO bikes..I have only rode this bike twice..I am listing it as new Becuz' it is in better than new condition Mechanically and Cosmetically.If you were to build this bike up it would cost over 1300.00

If you are just going to do trail riding and nothing really hardcore dont even look at the bighit, thats a freeride or downhill bike. I would say that in this case the Trek Fuel is the best deal. XTR and XT components, can't get much better than that.

Definitely the '06 Stumpy. That is the next bike I plan to purchase, the ride difference between a stock stumpy and a stock rockhopper is quite noticable.

Plus, the '06 Stump has a Fox fork. I love me some Fox forks.

No other opinions? Come on guys, I need some input!

If you're a newb keep it simple and go for a hardtail. For a first bike I would go with the bike shop Rockhopper since they will service your bike and answer questions, fix any problems under warranty.

There is a huge learning curve with mountain biking and general knowledge of bikes and I think getting a bike will ensure you don't pick up anything with problems you didn't notice before buying.

I have an '06 Stumpjumper disc (paid the new cost, yeah) and LOVE it. I found that the bike just felt a bit more to my liking than the Rockhopper, but that's going to be a matter of personal taste for you to contend with.

To me, the geometry of the Rockhopper felt a little more capable of stunt-riding than the Stumpjumper. I can tackle most log triangles, minor jumps, ramps and stuff.. but the Stumpjumper is definitely XC-oriented.

Ok thanks all. The whole bike shop thing is something that I am definately considering making me lean torward the new Rockhopper. I just don't want to end up wishing I had a full suspension bike after a year or so when i could get one now and LO the rear suspension and ride like a hardtail. Looks like its a pretty split crowd here since the only one that has been eliminated is the BigHit.

Well for me the Fuel feels like a hardtail, unless I hit a somewhat decent size bump.
