Fair enough. I'm excited b/c I almost made a mistake and bought a Tacx based on incomplete advice of many Tacx owners who (possibly for no other reason than that they have one or b/c they can't afford a Computrainer) attempt to mislead others by not disclosing what they know to be an inferior system. So, how's this:

Computrainer:

--> SpinScan - electronic pedal stroke analyzer
--> Create your own courses
--> Can be calibrated for accurate power workouts
--> More information on screen

Tacx:

--> Only one course and cannot create your own course

I thought the tacx had more than one course personally. Also I would hope the computrainer was better afterall doesn't it cost about 1000$ unlike the $500 or so that the tacx stuff sells for?

Oh yeah and the tacx has albeit for another 100$ a steering attachment so you can really pretend you're riding with the pro's.

Anyone else got any experience of these, I was going to test out the tacx when I return to Britain in June

Haven't used the Tacx, but we had the use of a computrainer a couple of winters ago and it was really great. We only had the version (I'm not sure if it's even available anymore) that hooked up to a video game system so the graffics weren't as good as the actual computer system and we only had a few courses available. Having said that it was the best motivational tool I've used on a trainer. Just the visual aspect of seeing the other rider and the changing resistance with hills etc. was realistic enough that I didn't mind spending time on the trainer, and got an excellent workout.

As far as I'm concerned, purchasing a Tacx is a waste of good money that could be applied toward a Computrainer. Steering is overrated, I believe.

I have a CompuTrainer this year before 3/12/03 have rode 652.1 miles it is well worth the money, before I had used rollers, stationary bike, during the winter when to bad to be outside, What I like about the CompuTrainer, it is 3D on computer screen, nice, any kind of data one will want, can layout your own course, according to your desire hills up to 15% grade, wind as you want it , one can get a senior discount, which I did, over 400 courses if you want to download them comes with about 150 on the disk when you install program.

Although watching the graphics on the Computrainer is pretty dull, the ability to ride on a simulated road course is wonderful. It's considerably improved my winter.
