Bicycle Mechanics - Removing brake levers and hoods
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am in the process of changing from drop bars to butterfly bars, and I need to remove my hoods and brake levers. Problem is, I don't know what to do!
It is an old 80s-vintage bike, with gum dia-comp hoods. The brake cables come out of the top of the hoods.

there should be a 4 or 5 mm hex bolt, if you pull on the brake lever and look inside at the opening pulling creates. loosen that
Remove the cables, squeeze the lever, look inside. See the screw.
Easy when you know where to look! Thanks

I had a pair of old Dia Comps that mystified me for a bit.... There were little rubber plugs you pulled out that let you insert an allen wrench.
