I recently put a new rear rack on my commuter. This rack comes standard with a permanently attached rear flasher bracket. However, there seems to be a tiny problem.......

I have been to no less than six bike shops in my city, and none have ANY flashers that will attach to a bracket. They are all designed for seat stays, seatposts or clipping to clothes. I examined these flashers to see if they could have the clips removed and then screwed into the bracket, but no dice.

Can anyone recommend a flasher that can be mounted to rear rack brackets?
Thanks.

Cateye TLD1000 can can be screwed into a mounting hole, if that is what you mean. Vista lights as well.

What kind of a rack is it? There are some (one of the Tubus racks comes to mind) that have a bracket for a specific light, and if it is that sort of thing you may need to check with the rack manufacturer to find out what will fit.

I feel your pain. That's why I resorted to this:

All the parts can be found at your local Lowe's and will adapt the standard seat post mount light.

What I did for my rear rack it had a small hole on the back I put a nut through that and a angle bracket put a loctite on the screw and a locking washer then mounted the seat post blinkie sideways on the angle bracket loctited it and locking washer. my seat post clamp removed from the blinkie it is a cateye something or nother for pics of the bracket in action look no further (http://www.flickr.com/photos/shigami/205269218/)

had to add picture envious

I have two of these (http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/11535-225_VISSN0-2-Accessories-35-Lights/VistaLite-Super-Nebula-Rear-Safety-Light.htm) on my rack.
The bracket that most bike shops provide is for VistaLite taillights.

Not as elegant as the solutions above, but I've never failed to secure something that need securing with a few zipties.

These blinkies (http://www.cateye.com/en/products/viewProduct.php?modelId=32&catId=7&subCatId=4) can be attached nearly anywhere. I have one on the seatpost of one of my folders and one on the rear of my helmet.

I think I have a Vista light attached to my rack. I had to use a hacksaw to cut off a little nubbin on the back to make it fit flush. This created a little hole in the case, which I sealed up with a piece of duct tape.

I tried this approach, but found that vibrations from the road would gradually unfasten the nut. Ended up losing the light halfway down my street. :o

Some plumber's teflon tape and lock washers should solve that problem.

Fabulous solution, xB_Nutt!!! I'm gonna copy that if you don't mind. My rear rack came with one of those craptastic reflector clips too, that no light will actually attach to. Until now I've been attaching my blinkie to the seat wedge bag, not so ideal. Why doesn't anyone make a rack with your device built in?

Those brackets are unfortunately designed to fit red reflectors, not lights... a pretty stupid oversight if you ask me. Seems like a lot of people have come up with good homebrew solutions, fortunately. I particularly like xB_nutt's solution.

What is the gap between the holes?
Hella do carrier lights to fit 50mm and 80mm gaps.

+1, go to the auto parts store and buy a huge bag of assorted sizes and colors for 4 bucks, there isn't a bike accesory made that can't be held onto a rack with a handful of these. Like the power company comercial of the dad that can fix everything. Use them to fix your plumbing.

While you are at the auto parts store check out the neato sticky reflectors and reflective 3M tape they have for big rigs. My philosphy for the coming winter commuting season is if it dosn't light up it will reflect!

+1 for the Vistalite Nebula (5 led) - but it looks like they are getting hard to find. It does take a little filing etc, but the back of the light is pretty flat.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I eventually found the Blackburn Mars 2.0, and it fits perfectly on the rack bracket without any need for filing or anything. My commuter is equipped with a Topeak rack and quick release trunk bag. It was important that I find a rear flasher that would not interfere with sliding the bag in and out of the rails on the rack. The Mars 2.0 is ideal. Oh, and it has a highly visible flash, too.
Again, thanks all.
