Mountain Biking - How about a new forum for "Urban/Trials"?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just a suggestion. I come often to this forum which is labelled "mountain biking" and often find a lot of stuff which is neither off-road, nor anywhere near mountains, even though it may involve "mountain bikes". I just thought it would be nice for people who are actually looking for info and disucssion topics on these topics to have a clearer idea where to find them and where to post their stuff. I'm not dissing either group. I've seen a lot of great posts and info from both sides but it seems that they would be better off under separate forums.

While we're at it, how about a "Which bike should I buy" forum?

Or better yet, a "I've never really ridden off road and have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to bikes but it makes me feel important to post" forum?

Dammit...if that's the case should he really be our guide for this fall forum ride? I don't want to come halfway across the country to ride bike paths! ;)

Not a bad idea...at least that way I won't have to sift through 100 Trek/Giant/Specialized endorsement posts!

I like that idea.

+1, Outstanding idea. Then I could give really bad advice 24/7. BTW, What ever happened to the Mountain bike under $500 thread?

man it would be nice not to look at "which bike to buy," that's why i dont.

i do think a trials forum is a good idea. its not that there arent other trials forums, but it would make bikeforums a forum one-stop-shop if you will.

I think that we should erect a new $500 beginner bike thread. It would help a lot.

One thing you must consider is whether there is enough folks on such a forum to sustain conversations. One of the things I like about bikeforums.net is that I can browse the MTB forum and get it all. The other approach taken by mtbr.com has brakes, 29er, clyde etc .... I like that as well, as it's easier for a newbie to navigate. But there is something cool about munging everything together.

This is a large problem with directories in general is that they are typically only singly categorized. What is really necessary is a generic category mechanism where a sub-forum is only a "view" and you can create your own custom views. When you created a thread, you would select the categories to which it would apply. So if you were talking about the drivetrain on your downhill bike, you would click downhill and drivetrain (or mechanics). If you were talking about the canti brakes on your road bike, you would select road and brakes.

Something like this was originally planned for the Vista file system. It has apparently been bounced back. But there is no way of getting around the notion that most of our documents belong in more than one file folder and we should not be bound by traditional physical paradigms in digital information systems.

Okay, maybe we should make a sub forum like the mountain bike racing one. I'd settle for that :D

It appears that I have been caught!!!!:eek:It's hard to hide a real poser........even on the net. I had some great rides laid out through the Davidson river campground this year. I guess I need to learn to ride before Oct.
