Here is one of my favorite pics of my recent Patagonia tour.

This is part of the 17 km ( 10mile) Sendero (footpath) of Lago Del Desierto from Chile to Argentina.

It's at the end of the Careterra Austral after the boat from Villa O'Higgins , there is a cart track up to the border and then it becomes a footpath

But it was worth it for amazing views of Mount Fitzroy at daybreak across the laguna

have you had any wrong turns that turned out for the best?

Nothing that bad. Last year, I took a shortcut from a bike route, but that road didn't have shoulders so I took a side street that, according to the map, would link back to the main road. Well, that street became gravel, then a quad trail that was surprisingly fast, save for a few sand patches. Eventually, I got to a fence with no trespassing sign . Fortunately, the main road wasn't very far and got back to it via a perpendicular sand trail I had passed. The picture below is the quad trail. I hit a longer, but shallower water patch a little further (damn beaver dam).
