I just wanted to intoduce myself, I'm Jon. I have no car and my bike is my primary transportation. I was hoping you guys could help me ID it. I don't have pics yet, but its a trash pile rescued, 1981, 26", single-speed, coaster brake, womens frame Murray, originally from JC Penney's. I was just wondering if it had a model name.

I've always used a mountain bike (West Virginia is not single speed friendly), but this one seems to be geared just right (for me). I'm getting spoiled to the simplicity of the single speed and coaster brake. I do daily city and trail riding as part of my commute, so I'd like to find a just-in-case replacement of the same or similar design. I am very fond of the comfort and visibilty of this old thing and its durable. I, almost nightly, jump a flight of about 4 stairs carrying anywhere between 12 and 48 cans of beer. The biggest advatage I see over a mountain bike is weight and reliability.

Anyway, Mods List:
"custom" blinking trade show button rear tail light.
"custom" as-seen-on-TV touchlight headlight
"custom" hadle bars (savagely beaten for a more ergonomic design)

Future Mods:
headlight that was intended to be a headlight, reflector bracket mount.
handle bar mounted bottle cage
rear cargo metal basket (sadle bag style)
slime tire tubes

Yea, thats kinda what I was going for. Anyway, I ordered some goodies:

Chrome AA Bullet Style Headlight
Cheapo Taillight (mine didn't survive the rain)
Stem-mount Bottle Cage
Cargo Basket.

Then I had to fluff up my order to get free shipping, so...

Cable Driven, Non-Digital Speedometer/Odometer (may or may not go on the bike)
Hand-held pump

It all ships in 3 days, the 3-7 more and I'll be the envy of my neighborhood!!

Oh, BTW, I found a serial number on the frame, how can I use that to find out more about the bike? Next on my wishlist is a mounting bracket for a GPS Unit and a Trek Aluminum SL Frame! That might be a while, though.

Jon,

Nice to meet you! I don't have a clue on any info about your bike, however, I do think the GPS and Trek Aluminum SL Frame would be nice. I would suggest trying Google. I have a 10 old Research Dynamics mountain bike and I was able to find parts for it.

Good Luck,

Tonkers
