Bicycle Mechanics - Campagnolo Zonda/Scirocco/Vento freehub

I'm six inches away from buying a set of these wheels to replace the ALX's on my Axis cross bike(long story). My only concern is whether or not I can still use my Shimano 9sp casette..
the info I'm getting from the dealers site is;
"Campagnolo Wheels are compatible with Campagnolo 9/10 speed cassettes and Shimano 10 speed cassettes which is based on the freehub body that you select. Shimano version only works with Shimano 10 speed cassettes - not compatible with 9 speed."
Can't I swap out the freehub with one that will work?

You will not be able to use your Shimmy cassette with the Campy wheels (I know, bummer. Those wheels are damn sexy, eh?). Your only choice is to bow down and become a Campy convert. :D

Actually, I've heard of the conversion being done, just not sure how. Someone else will be able to answer.

I appears the "Shimano" version of Campy branded wheels use the larger diameter, deeper spline freehub configuration used on 10-speed Dura Ace hubs. These will not accept Shimano 9-speed cassettes. Campy (and 10-speed Dura Ace) freehub bodies are Aluminum and the taller splines are needed to keep the cogs from damaging the softer material.

Nope, you don'rt HAVE to. It does mean you can't buy those Campy wheels unless you are prepared to spend a lot of additional money. Buy any 8/9/10-speed Shimano compatible wheel and you are good to go at no additional cost.

so what if i switched cassettes to a 10 speed?
would my derailer not work with it?

Shimano and Campy 10-speed cassettes don't have exactly the same spacing but are apparently close enough to work with each other's shifters. If you want perfect shifting a Jtec adapter will dial out the difference.
