Would've done a search for this,but it's not working. I'm planning on swapping a 12-25 8sp cassette for a 12-30(front's 52/42/30 and I've got hills). Will I need to add links,or is there usually enough 'extra' chain that the derailluer takes up? Thanks.

Lessee... 25 to 30, 2.5 links that would be. Stock chains are usually sized very conservatively (meaning that they have more chain than you need). Since you shouldn't be using the large cog with the large chainring anyway, you'll almost certainly have no problem with that swap.

I'm not so sure! Anyway, check on the workstand by cranking the pedals very slowly and shifting into the large-large combo. You won't break anything if you do it very slowly in the workshop, but you may have serious problems if it happens on the road.

Good advice. You should check to see if the large-large combo works with the new cassette, carefully and slowly. If it jams up, remember not to use it!!! But you shouldn't be using it anyway :)
