Find a song/video from the first (big name) concert you ever went to?

Youtube has most big name bands.

Here's mine:
Main Band:

Opening Act:

Edit: Remember this is from your first concert...not just songs/groups you like. You can use the memories thread for that.

My first "actual" concert was at a fair too....but I didn't count it as it was not chosen by me (was 5 and with parents) and I really barely remember it.

Here was the artist:

[Couldn't find a youtube on him]

The only song I actually like by him (for its comedy): http://www.jimstafford.com/audio/wildwoodweed.html

Yeah, it was a great first concert. I had to check the vid on YouTube and make sure it was from a show during one of the Buckingham years. I saw "Fleetwood Mac" play when I was in college, when Lindsey Buckingham had left the band for a while. I put the name in parentheses here because, without him, it wasn't the same band at all. They brought in two singers/guitarists to replace him and the two together still couldn't equal his stage presence or the dynamic he had with Stevie Nicks.

I also had the pleasure of seeing the band back when Stevie Nicks was slender, sexy, and fueling a whole lot of adolescent fantasies. She was bat**** crazy, too, of course, but that didn't matter to my thirteen year old imagination.

I believe that easily. LB is quite the artist in his own right. And there has been word of the chemistry between Lindsey and Stevie for ages. I think it has something to do with their "history"....there was a lot of relationship and partner swapping going on between the band members at one time (I read a big article on it once)....it is why that famous album ended up being named "Rumors".

It's also interesting to see or know of the evolution of Fleetwood Mac. I got their box set once and noticed a lot of songs that were very different than the Stevie/Lindsey version of FM. I did some research and found that FM had already been around for probably 10 years or close to it before Stevie/Lindsey joined the band. They were more of a bluesy/rock band before that with some masterful guitar work by a guy named Peter Green (or was it Peter White....forget now). I absolutely adore their song Albatross (instrumental guitar) which was done long before the Stevie/Lindsey days.

It was Peter Green. He was quite the guitarist and a songwriter, too. He wrote "Black Magic Woman" for the band, although it's the Santana cover of the song that really became famous. Actually, the band has a really interesting history, if rock geekiness is your bag. John McVie was an original member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (alongside Eric Clapton) and the nucleus of what would later become Fleetwood Mac formed when Peter Green came in to replace Clapton and Mick Fleetwood came on board. They eventually spun off from the Bluesbreakers to form a blues trio and kept at it as a blues band in various forms until Christine McVie joined the band and started pushing it in a more mainstream direction.

As good as the Buckingham/Nicks era Fleetwood Mac was, give me the bluesier Peter Greene version of the band any day. Coming through the John Mayall school, how could they have been anything but great?

"Can't help it 'bout the shape I'm in
I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
but don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to
Oh well..."

Personally, I like both eras. It's almost like two completely seperate bands. I like both for different reasons and different sounds.

Agree with KT. I like both versions, though I think there were better hard-edged blues bands around at the time of the original Mac. Still good stuff, though. BTW, BluesDawg, love your avatar.

I don't think they even exist anymore! I actually went to go see October Project, I didn't even know who Sarah McLachlan was! :) I ended up loving the whole thing! Even got O.P.'s guitarist to sign my arm. ;) I tried to find some of thier stuff on youtube, but all I got was some crappy soap opera stuff with their music playing in the background?

Hmmmm....I agree. It was lead singer Mary Fahl that "made" their sound so unique. I'm not sure if I've heard the new singer, but I can't imagine anybody replacing her "sound".
