Just got a chain from Nashbar for the old Fuji I'm working on, and it has a quick-link. For some reason I'm not getting this...
There's an enlarged area that obviously goes over one post, then you slide it up to the next one and...What?

The enlarged area is too far from the post to snap over, it seems.

The quick link comes in two halves. Each half contains one pin and one side plate. You put one pin through each end of the chain. Then you bring the two ends together, and slip the protruding end of each pin into the opposite side plate. The enlarged area is just barely close enough for the pin to snap into. I wish I could find a video of how it's done, but I hope that helps.

Hehe- I wish mine were like that, would have been easier.

I got it; the one on this chain had both pins on one sideplate, and the second sideplate had a slot with a pin-sized enlarged area on one end. What I had to do was grab the links to either side and actually bend the thing slightly so that the pin could slide into the enlarged area.

Not particularly quick or easy, but it appears to be OK.

What brand of chain are you using? The KMC, SRAM, and Nashbar-branded chains all have quick links of the type that Portis has shown above...

Whatever Nashbar sent me....It's for a six-speed, and was the cheapest one in the catalogue
