No. I have no clue how old he is or isn't. I said that I'm still a little baby and that that helps my recovery.

I was joking Jason. :D

I have had enough beer to ask a few stupid questions. What is GMR and GRR? Also...since I have never met or ridden with anyone from BF....and you folks have...is it freaky to think of someone as "The Fixer" or "jschen"...or do you just quickly find out the real names and deal with it that way? Sorry...just rambling thoughts of a dottering old fool..

Glendora Mountain Road, Glendora Ridge Road

Generally we start with login names and then identify ourselves with real names. Sometimes I refer to people by login names, sometimes by real names... I figure that it is fun to confuse people.

Here's some pics I took on the ride.
I saw a tarantula that last time I rode up to Baldy (about a month or so ago). Gorgeous animal and not the least bit afraid of the other cyclist or me. I refrained from petting it since I couldn't tell if it had fangs or not and I didn't want it jump on me. I'm surprised you caught one out in October. My one thought after seeing that picture is "why did the tarantula cross the road?" :p

how bad was the construction mess on GRR? We skated out there two weeks ago, and the road was so bad we had to go to the backside (at the top of GMR where the gate is)

lots of trucks and workers, but one guy told us that GMR would not be opening for a long time :D

Oops.....I forgot to mention this earlier. We saw Tom doing his sweeping near the top of GMR. We figured we wouldn't see him out there that morning for his sake due to the wet weather......but sure enough around a switchback we spotted an Atlantis parked on the shoulder and about 30 yards further up was Tom...:) Thanks again Tom!

Now they started patching up portions of GRR.......closing GRR to traffic as well would be so nice...:D

I'm 26:D Got one year on ya. I don't have enough LONG rides under my belt to recover fast I guess. Most of my rides are hammer session and the roadie only gets seen once ot twice a week. Prolly wasn't a good idea, but I know I could have done the entire ride if my feet were frozen solid. I don't want to make up excuses for my DNF.....but I'm the type that will get back up and try it again til I get it.

The next open weekend I have (I think 10/29), I'm gonna do GMR again, prolly just do repeats on it so I can get my climbing speed up, which was slow compaired to the group. I was able to climb the GMR section on 30t and 17t up, not sure if thats about equal to 42t and 25t. I didn't try it cuz I didn't want to get outa my tempo up. Next time up, I'll try a gear higher or two.

When ever you want to ride up here, I'm up for it, except on Wed and Thrusday. This weekend is booked for my too.

You seemed to be spinning at relative ease up GMR while I was gasping for air while pushing my stupid "no choice 46x18, you dummy" gear.....:p:D

next time I'll stay in the middle ring and give that a go in the bigger gears. You weren't gasping THAT bad, I was still hearing my breathing over yours so it was kept to yourself:D

"no choice 46x18, you dummy" gear, was more like, "I'm Crazy 46x18, OMG" gear:D

30/17 is slightly tougher gearing than 42/25. But nowhere near Fixer's 46/18 gearing. :o You guys are nuts climbing in those gears! I used my 34/27, 34/24, and 34/21 gears on GMR. Allowed me to keep a nice high cadence and just ride as if on flat ground (except with the scenery changing at a slower pace). I guess I prefer stratospheric cadences. I'm somewhat faster when I use higher gearing and bring my cadence down to the 60s or so, but then my legs tire faster, too.

Some math:

34/27 = 1.26 (my low gear on GMR)
34/21 = 1.62 (my high gear)
42/25 = 1.68 (jsigone would have been fine in his middle ring)
30/17 = 1.76 (jsigone's low gear on GMR)
46/18 = 2.56 (Fixer is a maniac!)

Yeah, I didn't want to get in front of him either. He didn't seem to concerned with getting to the other side of the road. He was just crusing along in the spider lane. :D

My cadence was prolly in the low 80 range on that climb. Then dip down 10+rpms when I had to get outa the saddle exiting some of those hairpins. I don't have a computer any more so I just feel it out. I was kinda suprised I was in that high of a gear cuz I did Palomar in 30x23 up w/ some sections of 30x21. But then again I couldn't hold that temp up GRR.

Interesting note, I just some cals on my gear ratio and ranges and figured this
30/25=1.20
30/23=1.30
30/21=1.43
30/19=1.58
30/17=1.76
42/25=1.68
42/23=1.82
42/21=2.0

I never have compaired gear ratios before and see where they cross each other by shifting on the front.
