i found this bike at a barn sale (VT represent) and am planning to "restore" it. i have already removed and worked on the fenders. they are looking better already.

does anyone have an idea of the year?

also, what do people think about repainting and just leaving the schwinn plate up front and schwinn/quality/chicago under the seat post original?

it is my first attempt at working on a bike since i was about 10....years old.

It was built in August 1978. It's not a museum piece, so paint away and have fun with it.
