Bicycle Mechanics - I'm Finally Taking My Bike Apart To Clean It!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Is this forum just for questions that you superstars approve? Why don't you publish a list of approved questions?
Sure is sparky. Great idea on the list. I'll get right on that. Now sod off
In our own little way we're telling the lad to pay attention to what he's doing so that those threads don't appear.

is it easy to do or does it take time to clean top to toe of your bike/????????/
It's quick and easy.
For a normal wash:
1) Spray de-greaser on chain and cassette, leave for 5 mins
2) Wet bike with hose and give chain and cassette a good drenching
3) Wash bike with sponge and a bucket of (any) car detergent
4) Hose off suds and dry the bike with a chamois
5) Re-lube chain, and wipe off excess with a rag
If the cassette and chain are very dirty and need a good clean then remove cassette and chain, put in a liquid de-greaser bath and clean with a toothbrush.
You do not have to pull the entire bike apart to wash it!
I told a friend I would service his bike. When he arrived, he dragged the frame out of the car and a bucket. Inside the bucket was EVERY nut and bolt and cable from the bike, stem, handlebars, brake levers, handle grips and brakes. He had stripped the entire bike down to a bare frame and had even removed the forks. He forgot the wheels and left them at home. I told him to take it to a shop and they would give him a price to re-build the bike.
CHEERS.

Wouldn't hurt, but that's considered an "OVERHAUL". I'd practice on something easy like your front hub. Buy some Cone Wrenches and give it a go. Park Tool's website should be easy enough to follow for this. If you can do this well, then attempt bigger and better projects. Another semi-easy task is the headset. Most bottom brackets are now cartridge and are replaced once worn out, so that's a pretty easy replacement. However, it requires a couple of specific tools. You'll need a crank puller, and a cassette tool. Just remember non-drive side is reverse threaded.
