Whew! That was close one. I was told yesterday at work that I may be flying out to Savannah, GA this morning. While I was packing yesterday evening, I got a call from my boss telling me that they found somebody who is closer to the work site from Florida. Thank God! Now some other poor bastard is going to be working all weekend instead of me. Money would have been good but my Labor day weekend plans have been saved  I'll see yall tomorrow. If you see a short Asian dude on a DeRosa, thats me.:)

I usually get the most expensive box of wine in the store!
The .99 store?

Speaking of white zinfandel, when we hosted a small wine tasting party a few weeks back this particular bottle of white zinfandel received the most 1st place votes among other competing white and red wines. The next evening I got on line to check retail prices of these bottles of wine that our guests had brought with them. Surprisingly, this winning bottle of white zinfandel cost no more than $5, while some of my and other guests' favorite bottles which did not get too many votes cost over $40.

How far is it from where we park to Baldy Village?

How much further to the lifts?

How far is it from where we park to Baldy Village?

How much further to the lifts?

Parking to first gate, start of GMR about 1/4-1/2 mile

8 miles steeper portion

13 a lil more level but tired from climbing- about 16 miles in, the grade kiks up again but doesn't look like it, so it's a mind game. Last 3/4 mile is downhill to the village

21.5 miles from parking to the Village.

From village to the lifts is about 7 more. Others say the last couple are the steepest/toughest.

Let's not get carried away. I would die if the distance from the village to the lifts is 7 miles! It's 4.6 miles, with 2100 vertical feet. The nominal route is the route profiled below to the high point, and then back to the beginning along the way we came.

Several BF lurkers and many non-BF members will show up for this ride so it is going to be a nice sized group.......the more the merrier...:D
It will be warm as you begin the climb so dress lightly, even from the very start, and be sure to carry enough fluids on you.

Hello all,
saw a post in another forum and decided to do the ride. It will be my first time doing such a climb. Kinda worried. I see there are some people from Upland. Are any of you familiar with the climb from padua/old baldy road to mountain, where you go up but take a right down to upland instead of going up the mountain? This is the only climbing that i have done and come to a crawl going up. The first climb im going about 5-6 mph and then probably 8-12 mph for the rest. How will if fare doing GMR with this kind of performance/lack of climbing ability? Also is there anyone in this area that would like to ride to the start together? I was thinking about leaving at 7 (im on foothill and benson). I am only going to ride to the village and plan on coming back down to upland and wouldnt mind company.

hello!

i'm not sure about the other road you are asking about... as i've only done GMR (and GRR) in that area! however... if you've been riding any time at all... you should be fine... the very first time i did GMR from boulder to the village... i was a BRAND NEW rider... i'd only been riding for 6 weeks! and i made it!

there will be all levels tomorrow... from the hammerheads to first time riders! you'll find someone to do the climb with out of all the people that are suppled to be there!!!!!

p.s details are in post one!

That stretch from Padua to Mountain is steeper than anything you'll encounter on GMR/GRR to the village. It's much longer, but keep a moderate pace, and you should be fine. GMR averages around 5%, while the stretch from Padua to the damn probably averages 8% and the steep part has to be around 10%. Good Luck :)

I only like dry red wine. The drier, the better!....and even better with brie (no, not your dog!)...

I love port. With chocolate!!! Yum. I do like Syrah too. Oh heck, I like them all, but those are two of my favorites! :D

Yup, I believe that is Shinn Rd.(?). The climb from Puadua to Shinn is a muthah from the bottom of the first steep hill. Then maybe 100 yards after that, it kicks up again. That's a muthah too!

I've crawled up those hills many times, and I can complete GMR. First two miles up GMR sucks fer me, but I'm a real slow starter. After a warm up, it gets much better. By a warm up, I mean feeling like your lungs are going to bust out of your chest!:D
