Southern California - Southern California Ride Group Thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK so I'm starting one for you guys to use. Just for the So Cal Ride group - you have your own thread!!!!

Would be great to move all your discussions here so easy to find... in the jungle of all the other threads.

Feel free to report any threads that are in the Road Cycling forum to the moderators, I'll move them here as they are reported to me. I don't have much free time to hunt down the old threads. :)

You have a bit too much free time on your hands, huh? :p

We should try to make sure to get the original OC BikeForums ride (last Nov, I think) in here.

lol.... you obviously missed THIS (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=221761) in your looking around!

we'd been asking for... errrr begging http://www.smileycons.com/img/emotions/127.gif for a forum for a while now..... and today we were given the MOST EXCELLENT http://www.smileycons.com/img/emotions/86.gif news that it was happening! you just happened to find it once it came online before others (i was out riding when you posted!) http://www.smileycons.com/img/sports/09.gif

Found it. Here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=149292) is the OC ride thread that I spoke of, that to the best of my knowledge is the ride that started it all off. How did I find it? Easy. If you sort by number of replies, a lot of the SoCal ride threads are on page 1. :D

[EDIT] The above link was the planning thread. Go down a few more pages (sorting by post count), and the ride reports and pics are here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=154889).

[EDIT 2] The Sept 2 ride thread started this afternoon is already on page 7 by post count despite being fewer than 12 hours old!

and Cali, I believe that the talk about a regional forum started here.. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=154889&page=4)

we'd even been talking about it recently in other threads! i was just showing that it didn't all the sudden POP UP.... it was being discussed and those of uw online earlier yesterday knew it was coming and were looking for it! http://www.smileycons.com/img/emotions/112.gif

Cali - go back to the CB thread - I put a note there that the thread you and Brandy had been asklng for is now available - then Chimvee and Voltman beat me back to it!!!!! Well maybe I beat Voltman back.

PS - shouldn't the CB thread be moved over here as well?

Others can come visit our section of the universe. I figure we can occasionally post a short thread in the roadie forum with links to all our glamorous events that other regions lack. Just imagine... "First week of winter SoCal ride reports" for a thread title. Post a link to a bunch of pics of sunshine and beaches as we ride by midday in short-sleeved jerseys. They'll want to kill us.

Or, if we continue to dominate the scene, people might just lurk around the SoCal subforum all the time anyway just to see what's up.

By the way, I think the Hawaiians will have an identity crisis. They've been placed in the "Pacific Northwest".

it would be strange splitting up ride planning and ride report/pics... come here for planning go there for pics? nah.... put all our threads here... they'll come! i've already been out being sociable in the the other regional forums!!!!!!

I feel our ride report/pic threads should initially be posted in the main cycling forum due to the tremendous amount of interest and traffic they generate .......just look at the number of views they receive....lots of members outside of So Cal must be viewing them.
And if the mods feels they should be moved over here later on, so be it...:)

i've already marked them to be moved.... it just seems strange to split them up...plus all our report threads get off topic! lol! we wanted a sub forum... now we're trying to keep a lot of our posts out of it??????

That would work with me. I'm going to move quite a few of the old ride report threads from the road cycling forum to this one, but leave a re-direct behind.

I have no problem with you starting a ride-report thread in the road forum, then asking it to be moved to this one 2 - 3 days later.

(and when i get yelled at for "reporting" it to have it moved.... i will quote you again! lol!)

i misread what you wrote, fixer! although i'll probably just start any ride reports i do in here... we'll see! lol!

As a non-SoCal'er, I love checking the threads about your rides. If only the group of lazies that live in my area ( ;) ) would have the same organizational skills, life would be a blast.

Oh yeah, I have no problem looking into the regional sub-forums to find out what's going on, either. Plus, with the search functions back on, clicking on View New Posts at the top of the screen usually gets me to the threads quicker.

To make up for your lack of scenery.

To make up for your lack of scenery.

Ahh... yeah. I pretty much bonked on that particular ride and basically stared at Kenal0's Grateful Dead jersey that whole ride humming "Row Jimmy Row" just trying to make it to the end. Boring scenery on the grid-like farm roads!

This is why we go up into Wisconsin where they have hills to climb and roads that twist around. :)

I'll see if I can escape to SoCal for a ride sometime.....
