Hey Linux_Author....I ride the trail. ;)
I live in Clearwater and when I ride the P. trail, I usually do clearwater to north end of trail and back.
We also do Suncoast Trail/Starkey Park fairly often.
My dad lives in Brooksville and may start riding, so I may take more trips up to the Withalacoochee trail (which is my fave, but just so dern far away).

Citrus Springs checking in. I ride the Withlacoochee Trail every morning as it is only 1 mile from my house. I need to get down south and try out some of your trails. Maybe after the weather cools off a little.

A couple of friends and I are coming down to do the Santa Fe Century (well, the 55 mile version if my buds don't get into better shape.) I've never ridden in your area before. Maybe I shouldn't wear my Florida State Seminoles jersey.

Since it isn't a football game day you should be OK with the jersey. Back in the 1980's I was riding with a friend on the day of the UF/FSU game and he just happened to be wearing a maroon jersey with yellow accents. We approached Gainesville on US 441 from the south along with a ton of game day traffic. It was not pretty. It took us a while to figure out what was going on.

Come on down and wear the jerseys. It'll be a hoot, and there may be some good natured ribbing, but nothing serious. Besides, we won the last two years and I believe we gave Bobby Bowden Field a great christening. :)
As for the Santa Fe course, if you only do the 55 mile route you'll miss some of the prettiest areas just north of Traxler (the split for the 55/100 mile course).
Now if you guys really want a fun course, stick around on Sunday and ride the Horse Farm 100 or the Horse Farm Tours. I believe the HFT is only about 35 miles, but it it's in the most scenic part of the HFH100. That's a really pretty area.
BTW - I'd go ride the Spaghetti ride in your neck of the woods, but I have tickets to the UF/LSU game that afternoon, and well I guess I have different priorities on Saturdays in the fall.
Ken
ps - Oh yeah, representin' Gainesville.

+1 to what Ken said about the rides.
While I haven't officially ridden the Santa Fe ride, I have ridden on all those roads. The middle part of the 100 mile ride is the best part. The Horse Farm Hundred ride has some very pretty scenery, especially after you finally get off of County 325 (pretty bumpy).
I plan on doing the HFH, but I'm doing it with a friend from Atlanta and I promised to "play nice" so it will be a leisurely day.

Hello, went to school in Gainesville, spent much of my childhood down in McIntosh, raised on a farm between Gainesville and Ocala.
Currently in Titusville, Fl.
The Space Coast Freewheelers have a century/metric century ride this October 29th. It's the 18th annual Intracoastal Waterway Century. Part of the route takes you through the Kennedy Space Center and another part down a little road that runs along the waterway itself. There's more at their web site.

We rode the santa fe century course yesterday. Pretty good ride, a bit sunny and warm at the end, averaged about 19.6 for the entire ride.
If they don't finish the construction on 239 between now and October 21, part of it is going to have to be re-routed into Worthington Springs.

You hammerhead you! :p My buds and I will be riding at what we refer to as a "Gentleman's C Pace." We would prefer to ride the Horse Farm Hundred the next day but the other guys have church committments.

I don't normally ride north of town and I haven't ridden on 239 since January. South is much more convenient for me. So, there is construction on 239? I hope it includes a wide shoulder! That part from Worthington Springs to (almost) Alachua was the part of the route I dreaded the most.
I love riding the SF Century, stopping at Worthington Springs, and hearing Mick Hubert call the games as Florida beats up on Kentucky, SW Michigan State, or some other multi-directional school. The last 25 miles past the Hare Krishna farm ARE brutal most years. Then you get in the car at the end, turn on the satellite radio and listen to the rest of the nation's football scores. A great bike ride AND all afternoon/ night left to recover and hear/ watch football... MAN, I love that ride:) !!!

Sorry, I meant 239A. The stretch of 239A east of 239 is currently closed. We routed by taking 239A to 239, south to 18, and 18 into worthington.
They also just repaved 236 east of Traxler, it's like butter now. I wish they'd do the stretch between High Springs and the interstate since I keep looking at those cracks in the road and thinking "gee, a 23mm tire could get stuck in one of these things reallllllly easy if you're not paying attention"

I just might have to go north this Labor Day weekend (hurricane permitting) and check that out. I live near Downtown Gainesville, so it is so easy to slip out of town on Hawthorne Road, the Hawthorne Trail, or take Williston Road to US 441, or just keep on Williston Road as opposed to beating my way all the way across town to go North and West.
Speaking of nice pavement, a couple of weeks ago US 301 south of Hawthorne to almost Citra was closed to thru traffic for a week. I got to ride it once (both ways) without any truck traffic and almost no cars. WOW! While the pavement is super, the volume of traffic normally is too high to really enjoy the ride

Earlier this year I spent a good amount of time cycling through that area with the Gainesville Brevet Series. Lovely country.

So where is this Pineapple Junction anyway? I can't find it in my gazeteer or mapquest..
(I originally thought it was down near Ft. Pierce since there used to be a pineapple plantation in that area)

Not so much of a roadie anymore, but I do mountain bike (yeah, in FL). Usually head to Alafia State Park southeast of Brandon, or over to Mulberry.

Yeah, but at least you beat the Canes.
Don't like the Canes, them and Notre Dame. God's team, yeah right!
Oh yeah, sssshhhhh don't tell anyone, but I never ever liked Steve Spurrier. Always of the opinion he was a great offensive coordinator, but never a good head coach. Don't think he cared too much about defense. Other than, those guys who give my offense a bit of a break every once in awhile.

I prefer the canes over the 'noles, but I'll second the comments about Spurrdog. I think he did elevate the U, but I always felt he was more interested in hitting the links than being a head ball coach.
Unfortunately, I think he may come in here on November 11th and try to mop up the place just to rub Jeremy Foley's nose in it.
OK, enough football talk.

Got that right!!! After having my homeowners insurance increase almost 200% since Francis and Jeanne, I got my notice of non-renewal this past week. Fun, fun! My homeowners insurance is going to be considerably more expensive than my mortgage.

So far I've been lucky. Unlink some of my coworkers, my insurance hasn't been canceled nor have the rates increased astronomically.

We had ours dropped in '95 a few years after Andrew and for the first two years it was rough finding an underwriter that didn't want a few pounds of flesh. It's gotten reasonable again, but we haven't seen the bill for 2007 yet..

Actually, Lynn Haven, Fl -- nearest neighbor to Panama city. Today is my birthday and I am now the proud owner of my first 'road' bike. 2007 Giant OCR3w -- such a sweet ride. My commuter is a 2006 Trek SU100 -- very different style of riding. The cool weather is sneaking its way here and I can hardly wait to ride to work in the 60s in the morning. I want to learn how to ride better and faster thus the road bike.

Anybody ride LOST? I did this last week and road from Pahokee to Clewiston. It was a 60mi round trip. I found the path in good shape but you have to go around many locked gates and riding on top of the levee was both windy and hot with the sun beating down. Other experiences?
