Hey! sorry, I don't live in A-ville (was just up there for the day today), but wanted to say howdy anyway. I am so glad that this regional section has been added.

Hope you find some ride partners.

cheers!

I might be able to do a ride on the weekends. Let me know if you're up for anything, either road or XC mountain. (my mountain bike's not full-suspension.)

Check out the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club at www.blueridgebicycleclub.org -- we have a weekly ride list posted online, and you can join our listserv for notification of other rides.

The Asheville Bicycle Racing Club at www.abrc.net also lists rides on their bulletin board.

You don't say which school you moved here for, but Mars Hill, Warren Wilson, Brevard and UNCA (and possibly Montreat and WCU, too) all have cycling clubs or teams, so you might investigate that if you're at one of those schools -- or even if not. You'd be welcome to join our Mars Hill group rides anytime, MHC student or not. We ride every Wednesday afternoon at 4pm (at least until the time change; we'll move it up after that).

Good shorter road loop to do if you're a UNCA student is take Broadway to downtown, kick around downtown, then over to Charlotte St to Edwin to Kimberly to Edgewood, then back to campus. It's about 5 miles or so.

My group rides road bikes and I assume your a mtn. biker and have no answer for you. Try going to some of the local bike shops to find a group there or at least info. that will lead you to the right group.

I worked there for a summer, sounds like some people are feeding you some ride times. You will love Pisgah. There is a lot of great riding around there

Any shouts from commuters or roadies in the AVL area? I commute from South Asheville to downtown almost daily. I know there are others out there... I SEE you occasionally!

I am no commuter...............ride mainly the Weaverville area from my house on my rides. I like Mills River area and the BRP.

Ever want to do a road ride in these areas let me know. We are not competitive on our rides just have fun and enjoy the outdoors.

Sheron, sounds like you have a small group you ride with occasionally? I am strictly a commuter; I think I could handle a 25 mile weekend ride at most.

Howdy fellow Ashevillians! I just wanted to cross post my introduction (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=270926) on this thread as well as in the intro section. :)

Allow myself to introduce.....myself....

I'm a runner who has been running for years for both health and fun. I like to do marathons mostly as I'm not terribly fleet of foot and perform poorly on shorter races. Over the years, my love affair with running has been strong but I'm looking to possibly add to my running or maybe even move in a new direction with some cycling, which is what brings me here. ;)

As far as what kind of bike I need or what, I am still very unsure. I plan to read quite a bit here as well as ask a lot of questions. I hope to make a decision soon as to whether I will choose a road or mountain bike and then I can move onto researching which bike might work best for me.

Thanks for reading and I hope to learn from everyone. :)

Cheers,
Impalla

I'd guess that most folks that don't do both already know what they'd enjoy more. I'm not much for camping or hiking, but I love exploring new roads and areas of town.

Taste of spring in the mountains this week. Hopefully you seasonal riders are getting your bikes out and getting back onto the roads and trails!! Another cold snap or two, and we should be solidly into spring!

Sucks that it's dark in the mornings again, but you after-work riders have some more time to get out...

Dang Impalla, get a mtnbike. Way too many great trails to ride,no need to be sucking car smoke.
