Southern California - Hey! We need to plan a ride up here!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

All of you having fun down south....getting jealous! It's hard for me to take an entire day out to drive, then ride, then drive back to join you. Riders around this area (Conejo Valley, TO, even SFV), step up and identify yourselves 'cause we gotta pull together some BF rides here! Let's see if we can entice the folks to head our way.

Tell you one ride I'd like to do....Agoura Hills (Islands/Sundance parking lot) to HV out Protero to Camarillo then back around PCH to Mulholland, Westlake and down and home. It's about 50 miles with some climbs but nothing like the Baldy routes. I figure we could be back for lunch.

I'd be up for that.

Additional possibilities,

San Francisquito Canyon

Pine Mountain (or Lockwood Valley or Mt Pinos or ??)

Lake Piru

Solvang (too far?)

I'm in Northridge a member of the S F valley club. We go through Simi all the time. I especially like the Santa Monica mountains area.

Wellllll, there are so many rides on the calendar now, it's almost impossible to find a weekend!

I have to look at our family calendar. Our 11 year old is playing AYSO soccer so our Saturdays are generally toast, although I could miss one game this season. Unless they make the playoffs, we are done in November. Sunday rides are fine with me and I could come up with the plan, but don't know how the rest of the group feels about that. Any opinions?

The route I posted earlier could be fun and has been on my list to try: Agoura Hills (Islands/Sundance parking lot) to Hidden Valley, Dos Vientos dropping Potrero (anyone remember Cruising? It's that nice long downhill to the flatlands). From Camarillo then back around PCH to Mulholland beginning a 7 mile climb averaging 4% with 7% max). Some climbing back upper Decker to the top then the descent Decker/Westlake Blvd. CAREFULLY! This one has a couple of 18% pitches nearing the bottom. Then we cruise around the lake and back to the parking lot.

It's about 50+ miles, I think. It's not the flatest route so some work is on tap but it's very doable.

Depending upon departure time, I think we could be back for a late lunch at Islands or Chuy's which share the parking lot.

Another possible alternative: I ride with Agoura Cycles on Saturdays, when I can (ie; late soccer game or my wife isn't going to the gym that morning). There are two routes. The long ride is roughly 40-45+ miles. We average 15-30 riders. It's not a hammerfest and a good group of folks. No one gets dropped. Shop guys and the owner ride with us and if you get a flat, or experience a mechanical, you are often handled. We've had a couple of incidents (bad spill hitting a rock, someone else tacoed a tire) where the shop guys actually called for their own van to come pick up a bike). What great service! Last week on the cue sheet, they placed a one day only coupon for stuff.

The ride leaves at 8. We could arrange for all of us to join the ride one Saturday. This way, we've got a route planned, plenty of company, informal SAG, and upon the return, there are several places to eat right there. The ride usually ends around 11:30 or so.

Anyhow, just some ideas.

The Agoura/Potero/Mulholland ride sounds like fun. If we can get the BF group together it would be a great ride.
