I have a 3/8 fork and a 14mm wheel and i was trying to grind it out to fit and it is going very slow. I'm usiin a hand drill with a little grind stone at the end.

Any tips on how to make this work better and faster?

Drillbit?

Yeah, a drill would work, or a dremel or something like that. I tried using my dad's reaming drill bit and his drill to grind out my rear dropouts, but the bit kept falling off because it couldn't clamp properly. Maybe yours is nicer.

Won't it ruin the drill bit?

Why not just knock your front teeth out, and call it even? A good fork has dropouts made from quality steel - cromoly to be exact. Hopefully, some materials engineer has decided how much metal is required for a 3/8" axle. And you want to remove some of the metal, then subject the fork to more abuse?

Well.... The fork is very old. it has been riden by a pro for 3-4 years when he was learning backflips. so He only gave it to me because I didnt have any other one. Its going to brake eventually I might as weel be able to use it for that short time then not use it at all.

Then it is DEFINETLY a good candidate to weaken more.

dude...........why didnt you just get a 14mm slotted axle [flat sides] so you could have just slid it into your 3/8 forks

I didn't get another axel because I dont have any money. My Bike got stolen and the owner of my shop was giving me his old stuff. I still have to buy a lot of stuff to finish my new bike so i didnt feel like spending money when I could just grind it out

if you want to do it properly get a couple of decent hand files, round and flat, mark off 2mm around the slot and file them out until you meet the mark. it'll be a lot quicker than usng a dremel.

Well I already grinded it out. Once I got a good grind thing it only took like 20 minutes.

And I hope my mouth looks like that then I'd sell all my bling for $20,000 and buy an axel.

I know. Thats why I'd rather spend the money on brakes or a chain that I need instead of something I could do for free.
